Effexor XR Questions

Hi All!I have been on Effexor XR for years, and it saved my butt when I was down. Currently, I am wondering if it is working. I have cut down from 225mg/day to 150mg and am doing okay (headaches).I would appreciate any experiences with this drug. I have tried others, and none agreed with me. Lexapro, Paxil, Zoloft, Well Butrin, Prozac etc.... Yoga helps, but I can't do this every morning and evening!

If it has been working for you why are trying to reduce it? If it isn\'t broken, don\'t fix it.
I have heard it can be difficult to get off of it, have to taper real slowly to avoid weird side effects. I took it for a long time, and it didn\'t seem to do much for me. I don\'t recall any problems getting off it personally. I have been on and off antidepressants for over 20 years, and it seems I always end up back on them. I take cymbalta now. I don\'t know if it does anything or not.

Oh, the reason I\'m wanting to get off of it is because I an not sure it is working any longer. I would like to try some natural supplements, but they interact negatively with Effexor so i have avoided them-One is HTP(?)
After my recent experience with my son and hid Addison\'s crisis, I have become somewhat distrustful of our local physicians.....they gave him 11 psych meds, in 12 months before he ended up in a reputable hospital with the diagnosis. The \"side effects\" were blamed on his medications. Thanks for your input. Have you heard of renal failure creating urinary overflow incontinence? I know this seems like a weird question but I have googled around to no avail!

I am feeling better having cut down on my medication.
I am continuing teaching Yoga.
I find peace through AA and step work.
So far so good.! NO negative withdrawals from the Effexor other than an occasional headache.
Perhaps I was suffering from situational depression-no doubt, since it was drinking off and on when I began the medication.
It will all shake out, and if I tank, I\'ll know where to turn.
I have been sober long enough to enjoy some serenity in spite of a VERY tough year regarding my kids and other family members crisis.
