Early morning drama

So this morning Mother finally used her bedside alarm... and boy, does that thing wake you up! It sounds like a Smoke Alarm or something, and right at my head. So I'm up and down the stairs, followed by DH. Mother is fine, looks at me and asks if I'm crying. Uh, no, just sleepy. It was 6:30 and we had already been awakened by the dog to go out but DH handles that as I try to stay asleep, usually unsuccessfully.
So we get her hearing aids in (otherwise, nada!) and learn that Mother just had had a weird night. Kept thinking it was time for me to come down and get her up except that it was pitch black outside. Finally, apparently after a long time, she gets her little flashlight and finally turns it on (she has trouble with it) and finds that it's only 3:00 a.m.
She's used the bedside commode apparently several times, as there is tissue all over the floor. Plus there is something of cloth inside the commode. Gingerly I pick up the corner and find that it's one of her socks!! She has no idea how that happened. Nor do I... but it's another example of her general confusion, especially at night.
Now it's 8:30 and she's still asleep... hopefully she's getting some rest.

Oh boy! Sounds like the party is REALLY getting started now!

Great that she is using the BSC even if she does get it confused with the laundry hamper!

A few times my Mom has had similar time confusion.

She woke up after a nap one afternoon when it was kind of dark and rainy outside. She wandered into the kitchen and asked me what time it was. I told her 3 oclock, and she asked me what I was doing up! 3PM mom!

Oh, that\'s funny, Trojan! But I have to say the confusion she exhibits really is disturbing for me... I guess because she was really quite high-functioning before this UTI/sepsis incident. But I can see that this is probably the end game for her... even tho\' I don\'t think she sees that. But I mean, come on! She\'s almost 95!! How long does she expect to live?? (Answer: 105! Yikes!)

It came on a lot slower for my parents and there was so much angst anger anxiety and uncertainly. It was TORTURE for five long years!

While having it happen suddenly is more of a shock I would trade places with you in a heartbeat.

You are one of the lucky ones to be getting it over with so you can have your life back! How was your golf day?

The golf day ain\'t happenin... no word back from hospice, plus Mother had to postpone her shower till tomorrow. But that\'s no problem... we weren\'t counting on it anyway. But tomorrow we get in the ramp!!!!! unexpectedly early (tho\'t Oct. 18th.) So that\'s huge. But I have to post a more general piece on how alcohol figures in for everyone. I\'m having to realllly proof-read as I go because I\'m on a ... multiple gin and tonic. And I don\'t quite know how I would do all this w/out the alcohol. But I do worry about it...

I drink. I also can\'t imagine getting through this without the booze. It\'s our choice. Nobody\'s else\'s business. I will never drink and drive.
