Effectiveness

In a good simulator, the emphasis is on traffic participation, traffic rules, and coping with traffic in realistic traffic situations, and not exclusively on car management. And these are precisely the skills that are the hardest to learn in a student car. A good driving simulator has the following properties:

· Skills are trained in a way that averts mental overload from the trainee. The training focusses on automation of driving jobs, such as gear changing, lane changing, steering processes, scanning when approaching an intersection, negotiating roundabouts, entering a street, overtaking, etc..

· A large variety of people scenarios are practiced in a quick time period, allowing the trainee to get adequate driving experience. In a simulation, specific skills can be trained quite effectively. · In a simulation, the pupils learn to drive in a safe environment without stress. The consequences of an error are less serious as in the actual world. Many people today learn quicker and better when they feel safe and relaxed.

A research in the US clearly revealed that learning how to drive in a simulation has favorable effects on traffic safety. The collision rate of pupils trained in a simulation fell to 34% of the national average from both years after the training. This amounts to a reduction of 66 percent in the amount of injuries in young drivers.

When looking for a driving school, pupils are recommended to determine which one has a simulator. You may learn how to drive better and it might very well be more economical as well.
