Drive through Kananaskis Country
We woke up to glorious sunshine so decided to go for a drive into the Mountains. We stopped at a trail head where we saw several cars. A lady and park warden were looking up so I asked whether there was wildlife. The lady said "No - my kids are up there. This is my daughter's car". She said that she had a text message from her saying they were having a little problem but would be home by 8 last evening. I felt so sorry for her - all I could think of was to give her a big hug and let her talk. The Search and Rescue people were out with dogs, helicopters and ATVs. I haven't heard whether they were rescued. I understand how that poor mum feels.
The rest of the drive was bittersweet. Lisa also loved the mountains and we drove past the ski area where she and my granddaughter spent a wonderful day. In fact my granddaughter wanted the photo of her and Lisa on the slopes displayed on the altar at the memorial.
On the brighter side, we stopped a lot. We did a circle route and ended up driving through cattle country. We saw a couple of cowboys herding cattle and then had to stop when a group herded some across the road. The second group looked like a group from a dude ranch. We had lunch at Longview and visited with a lovely lady at an antique shop. We didn't see Ian Tyson (you may remember him from Ian and Sylvia if you are old enough! He lives on a ranch near Longview) His best known song as a cowboy singer is Navajo Rug. He has a coffeeshop called Navajo Cup. We had lunch at a log cabin restaurant which is run by a Moroccan couple. The food was good but not Moroccan. As we were in Alberta beef country we had beef!
A stop for dessert at Bragg Creek, a little town near Calgary that is in the foothills and has become quite artsy. We enjoyed browsing the art shops.
It was a day Lisa would have loved - except she would have wanted to go hiking!
I sure hope the kids on the mountain were rescued and the family is celebrating. It gets very cold at night at the higher altitudes.

Sounds like a glorious day. I know it was made better by the wonderful memories of your daughter, only I know you would of rather had her there with you.... I also hope that those kids were found safe. Hugs to you Wendy
Feels as if it was just the kind of day that you needed. I too hope those that were lost were found. I\'m sure that is weighing on your heart as you wonder? When we can have a day such as you described it restores my faith in the knowing that happiness is within our reach. Thank you for sharing. Hugs, Joanie
Sounds like you had a good day filled with memories of Lisa - good memories. I too hope everything turned out well with the other family. Hugs, Linda
It seems that it\'s hard to go anywhere without being reminded of how fragile and precious our time on earth is. Still ~ it sounds like you had a glorious drive through the mountains, similar to the drives that my husband and I love to take. I\'m sure Lisa was enjoying the time with you.
Sending good thoughts to the family with the missing children (or hopefully found by now...)
Sending hugs ~ Debbie
