Dream a Little Dream of Me Lyrics

The song Dream a Little Dream of Me was written by American composer Fabian Andre with lyrics by Wilber Schwandt and is often claimed to have been written during a short 10-minute break during a gig in Paw Paw, Michigan.[1] However, it is more widely accepted that the two writers wrote the music together in Milwaukee.[2] American singer-songwriter and pianist Donald Kahn has credited the melody for making the song work.

The single version of the song reached #1 in the US on 12 September 1968. A cover of the song was recorded by English singer-songwriter Robbie Williams for his tenth studio album and second swing album, Swings Both Ways (2013). Although he originally recorded the album version as a duet with Lily Allen, she was omitted from the single release.

Its popularity caused a cover by Anita Harris to be released in the UK. Released on 26 July 1968, the Harris version debuted in the chart dated 10 August at #46 ahead of the Cass single at #49. However the Harris record would maintain a much lower chart presence throughout the ascendancy of the Cass version which peaked at #11.

The song has been covered by many artists, including Louis Armstrong, Barbara Carroll, Anne Murray, Nat King Cole, Doris Day, Joni James and the Mills Brothers. It was also featured in Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3D and the 2010 Jude Law movie Repo Men. American actress Zooey Deschanel sang it in a 2007 show by designer Erin Fetherston. It was also sung by the character Artie Abrams on Glee in the episode "Dream On".
