Down today

My lovely daughter came in last night late and I was sound asleep early when she got here.
She was tired too I guess and got right into the bed I made up for her nicely.    I slept on the air mattress since the ex took our bed.  I mostly slept ok on it, it comforts my achey back in a way I had forgotten.  But damn in the middle of the night I got up to visit the ladies room and was disoriented since I was in the other room and banged up a toe quite nicely.

Anyhow....
She and I had a good talk this morning about things.  She is 22 and will graduate from college ONE day down the road.  She and her boyfriend, who I thought was a keeper, have sort of parted company.  She is on her own spiritual journey, and she can be a very selfish child...hate to say but true.    She is stubborn like her father,. and looks just like him, and thee is no changing her mind once she has an idea in it.  A blessing and a curse right there.
She has left, tearfully, to go wedding dress shopping with her best friend.  Bestie's wedding is coming up and the whole bridesmaid dress thing is a pain in the neck tooi. Lea's in the wedding and has strong opinions about that.  Purple is all we know for sure.  :)  My daughter is 5'6" and maybe 110 pounds.  The maid of honor, god love her is quite the opposite.  I think they should just pick color and then pick the style that suits them each and quit the damn worrying about matching so much.

I've been a bridesmaid many times, oh the list, if I can pull it up, by bride:
Liz
Cindy
Kate
Kathy
Ellen
Marianne
Jennifer

I feel like I am missing one.

Three of those marriages are still sound, which is encouraging.  I am trying to guide my daughter and doing a crap job of it as my own marriages have failed.  I want her to have better than I did and make better choices.  I wish I could do better on that front.  She has learned a bit from my mistakes but I don't want her to suffer like I have.
I found out yesterday that my brother is leaving the woman he was going to propose to and while I think that is for the best, I know there is a ton of pain.
I think it is just hard for me because I care too much about these things and these people.

My daughter is a lot like her dad too and selfish a good part of the time. she really admired my stbx, he was a good example of a father and husband in the beginning. I worry about my two divorces in regards to how my kids think of marriage. Only one is married and of course I try not to stick my nose in where it doesn\'t belong BUT on the other hand I feel like I have some experience on WHAT NOT TO DO in a relationship, you know, don\'t sweat the small stuff, in the scheme of things, does that issue really matter, look at the big picture. I just feel like my kids don\'t have a clear picture of what marriage is, for that matter maybe I don\'t either coming from a broken home myself. Being a nurturer, I just want my family and friends to be happy and in a healthy relationship, I just don\'t know if I am able to give them that, it hurts my heart to have failed in two marriages........

Many of my niece\'s friends are getting married around the age of 22, also. I have voiced to her that I think that is too young, and that it is so easy to tie the knot, and so hard to untie it. She\'s not my kid, so I can discourage her from marrying young if I want. :) I am glad you had a good talk with your daughter, and you are probably doing a better job of it than you think.
