down & up

So I woke up today feeling kind of depressed. No particular reason I suppose, just a lot of regular life stress and I didn't get enough sleep last night I'm sure. My girlfriend and I got a little snippy with one another before going to bed last night and I know that had something to do with it. Also, I've been feeling pretty good lately in general so waking up in that negative mindset was not something I was prepared to deal with. Then on my way to work I completely drove past, not only my exit but the one following it! haha. I can laugh now but at the time, I was completely perturbed and worried I would be late to the office. I was.
I work in accounting so we are in the middle of our 1st quarterly close for the year and there is a lot of extra responsibility on my plate considering I just moved into a new position around the end of January. It was not a good day. I basically completed about 3 total tasks and the rest of the time was spent gathering missing items, working on problems and assisting with closing issues. I hate days like this at work because it makes me feel inefficient. Anyway, I decided not to dwell and just keep at it. I ended up taking things home to work on later tonight. My girlfriend is out of town for the next few days so I think it will help fill the time. I also really want to do well in this job and don't want to run the risk of falling behind. I'm very committed to learning as much as possible while I'm here and making the most of this opportunity. I don't have a college degree and trust me, I know there's a ceiling you reach at some point.
The day got better eventually, I ended up focusing on work and prioritizing enough to get through it. Happy to be home and honestly, happy to have some "me" time. My partner and I spend nearly all free time together and although I would agree I may not be the most productive when she's away, I still feel a kind of independence and freedom to just be when she isn't here. I always miss her presence, I really do. But when you've been in a relationship with a person, lived together for so long, spent so much time (unhealthy amount of time IMO) together it's kind of refreshing to have the evening to yourself :)
