done and dusted
i had my whole weekend work schedule planned out and i just didn't feel like doing anything. i procrastinated and moped around all weekend and then up against a deadline for dr. q. i was scrambling. i think i did okay on my paper - it was short but within the page requirement parametres. i don't think i incorporated text quotes very well though and he's likely to dock my grade for that, plus i turned it in late. i was really trying to get it in on time but the computer system was all wonky so it didn't submit to the drop box until midnight and the deadline was 11:59. seriously - the dropbox registered 00:00 as my submission time. i guess that first hour of the day it doesn't use the 12, so as not to be confused with noon.
if i'd actually started work on saturday i wouldn't be feeling this anxious i don't think, or at least i hope i wouldn't. right now though i feel all twitchy and keyed up in a bad way. big difference from saturday when i was just spitting mad all day, raging at the injustice of the situation with my sister until i crashed out. i had to ferry her to work saturday as usual, and then i ran an errand and then i went home. i wasn't home for five minutes before she called to tell me she'd been fired and would i ccome pick her up. i got there and her eyes were red-rimmed and two of her co-workers were stalking around the car park like lions on the hunt or something. so the story is that one of her co-workers is a lying lazy brat and anyone who doesn't like her is "obviously" out to get her. she complained to the new manager that my sister had threatened to punch her and the manager said that creating a hostile work environment was grounds of termination. then the owner pulled her aside and saud she was really sorry, that my sister was her most dedicated employee and that she'd be happy to write her a glowing recommendation but that she had to do what the manger suggested. that's so dumb - she's the owner, why is she siding with the manager over her own judgement?
evidently the rest of the girls at the shop were told my sister was fired as soon as she walked out the door. two of them walked out with her, just leaving their clients hanging because they were so angry. the news travelled so fast her phone was going off like crazy before we even got home. one co-worker in the same position called the manager and told her that she'd heard what happened and she just wanted to say that she'd never heard my sister threaten anything against the brat, but that she had threatened to stab her if the next time the stupid girl left all her paperwork for the next shift to complete and process. it's a common complaint from all the girls in that position - one time the brat went so far as to hide all the paperwork she hadn't done in a storage cuppboard then when she was reprimanded blamed it on the shift after hers. because of the stabbing threat the co-worker asked if she should bother coming into work for her next shift because she wasn't going to drive all the way into town just to get fired and drive home again. when the manager didn't say anything she told her to forget it, that she was putting in her notice because she was sick of the brat getting away with everything and all the other b.s. the manager doles out.
i was so angry saturday that i spent the whole afternoon fuming. i called the owner to give her a piece of my mind, in a very calm and polite way actually, but i think holding back from the invective i wanted to spew drained me. i crashed really hard and way earlier than i usually go to bed. i realised though that i haven't taken my meds in the last couple of days. i ran out and didn't pick up my refill until friday afternoon. i think that has a lot to do with why i'm bouncing off the walls one minute and nearly crying the next, plus how unmotivated and lethargic i've been in the last few days.
so...meds now, then sleep with the hope that tomorrow will be better. my sister's been refered to a law firm that handles labour violation suits. another of her co-workers was fired last week for calling-out sick so he's suing the owner. when he got word of my sister's plight he recommended she call the firm representing him. so we'll see how that goes. in the meanwhile i've got boatloads of work to catch up on, and i'm trying not to stress too much over what i need to accomplish in the coming week.
