Donald (the duck man)
Hello and greetings from my new home. I am getting to know so many people and getting into the swing of things. They do have a routine schedule set for meals and activities that took a minute since I was used to eating at 1:30 and 6:30 or 7 pm. Here it is breakfast served at 8, lunch at noon and dinner at 5 pm.
The first day as the kids helped move me , they were confident they did not have to worry as I was already chatting and getting to know people then. By the first full day I was here I was introduced to DONALD. He asked if I knew Mickey mouse, then Donald Duck.... said that is how to remember him and if I ever forget he will quack at me. (He did give me a look when next time he asked if I remembered his name and I QUACKED AT HIM !!! LOL ) Anyhow he used to be a teacher and his wife passed last January so I believe that is why he does try so hard to latch onto people.
Donald can be a bit overbearing and loud at times so he does rub some of the ladies the wrong way. He has been diligently pursuing me , trying to show me the ropes, give me a tour and teach me PENUCKLE. A few days ago I did finally agree to go meet him for my first lesson. It turned out the lesson and "tour" was of HIS ROOM (not the building). I did learn something of the game but told him I would want to watch others play a game or two first. THUS the invitation for the next lesson yesterday and he was rather persistent but I told him I did have other plans. I did get to meet his cat Bootsy who actually does a few tricks and is very lovey. Bootsy is my new bud as after we played for awhile , the cat decided it was long enough and he climbed up on the table and sprawled across the cards as if to say our time was up. I did scratch his ears and rub his belly (Bootsy, not Donald. bahaha) I am trying to keep a little distance as i was feeling a bit stalked ( a few of the ladies jumped in to try to save me as well. )
I am still waiting for the guys to come back and hang my pictures on ym walls, but otherwise am pretty settled in and there is such a difference here as to where I was. I am enjoying it, getting to knopw people, openeing my mouth ( sometimes too much) and yes, still getting into trouble. heehee!!!
I hope all are well and send love and hugs,
Kim

Oh, I’m so happy for you, veggie queen! I didn’t know you were moving into an independent living place. I think you have a great attitude. I hope some of your health issues abate.
hey teachers are generally loud because they need to broadcast to students.....I can understand him stalking though because he is probably very lonely and thinking if he gets the gal his life will be back outside of that place again....not going to happen....
anyway thanks for the update....I called and left voicemail while back asking about your move....so glad you are there now...my Mom went into a supported living place that was very similar to what you described and it was $6500 per month....hopefully your not depleting your bank too badly
I am so happy to see you happy, living in your own space and making friends with everyone there. hugs
Happy for you!
Thank you everyone.
You are the new chick on the block, lol! Happy for you! My time is coming soon. If it wasn't for Henri I would be in one now. Hugs!
Excellent news Kim. Do you still have your car with you there?
I actually gave up the car since I was basically just going to store, pharmacy and Dr appts. They provide transportation for shopping and to most of my Drs. (A few are a bit further so my nephew said he'd be my chauffeur for those). I am not yet completely familiar with the area , but there are quite a few who did keep their vehicles and venture here and there and I notice they do sometimes offer a ride.
I've had my moments when I do regret that I must admit. But Addi is turning 16 in 2 weeks and I thought it would be nice to offer her my car. The kids are paying me several grand for it and she is excited . They took my car from my place to theirs checking out all the things it does. her Mom said when they got home she was just sitting in it for about 15 minutes just imagining.
Yes I am the new chick on the block and I do feel somewhat out of place since I am one of a very few younger people here. I would say I have only noticed about 5 or 6 of us my age or younger. The majority is 70s to several dear ladies who are 101 and 1 little black lady who is 104!!!! God bless them . I have to say I was surprised to learn we can have pets. Many have cats ( who sometimes escape and roam the hal til they are captured by their owners. )
There is a vet who is in a wheelchair (lost both legs below the knee) who has a very loveable husky with the most beautiful blue eyes. She is so friendly and I have discovered loves to have her ears and belly rubbed. Her name is Sky.
Also, Donald the duck man has Bootsy (a cat) who is also friendly and outgoing. So much so that she led Donald down the hall to our little "church service". Unfortunately he had to chase her down the hall and back to their room . He didn't come back for the service because til he got her back in and put her harness on he just stayed put.
Yes there are things to do and people to meet and quite a few immenities, but I'm afraid no action here for me. bahaha (Afraid I do still have a naughty mind and am not dead yet!)
I have so many health issues that I think about when we will need to go to an independent or assisted living place. I can't really cook any longer and my husband can't see enough to find the burners on the cooktop. He can use a microwave because we put dots on the flat buttons you push.
I am only 66 and just feel defeated physically and health wise. I found a concierge doctor that I made an appointment to be a new patient. Scheduled for October. Then I got a text did I want next week as they had a cancellation and my dang fingers hit the wrong numbers and I texted no. URGH.
Hi Kim that is cool you could have a pet.... Mom's assisted living had a support dog that was small when they got her but she turned out to be huge and has like a odd over abundance of toes....
