doctor visit
Dear Friends, We say the oncologist on Wednesday of this week. For blood work and consult. Steve creatine has been creeping up some the past two months. He is not drinking caffeine and drinks a lot of water. I have noticed that he is going to the bathroom a lot. Sometimes 3 times a night. I have tried to get him to see the urologist but he says not now.
Dr. Amin discussed a new trial that he is doing now. Does not have a name yet, just a number. It would require infusion once every 3 weeks. Wonderful that something new is coming but very scary to Steve and I. He would go to Vytorin first. But at least he is a candidate for the new trial. Thank you God for that.
I get thru each day by putting it in the back of my mind. If I stop to think about it I get into a difficult place in my mind. But I choose to trust God for our future.
God bless each of you this day.
Wanda

Good Morning Wanda, Do I understand correctly that Vytorin would replace Sutent? Or is this in addition to? Any change is disruptive and alarming. We are really appreciating the respite from total panic and fear. I so understand. God Bless you too. Love, Vernell
Wanda, I am always amazed by the continous progress that is being made in research and testings. I am glad that Steve in a candidate for this new trial. Has the Dr. told you of side effects ? Wishing you both the best as always, and hoping that you can find a happy spot for a while. Bless ya both. Hugs Jane
Wanda:
Do you have the right drug? I googled Vytinon and it is a cholesterol medicine . Are you talking about Votrient? I am on Votrient. It is like Sutent. Now if it were me and Steve is tolerating the side-effects of Sutent then why change? I was on Sutent for 9 months and it stopped working. I tried Afinator and Nexavar without any sucesss. It was a bad 6-months as I was not getting any help. I was put on Votrient in April 2010 and things have gotten better. Do not know where I will go after Votrient, but praying for new drugs. My appraoch at this time is to not change anything unless I have to. I am living with the side-effects and quality of life is ok for now.
Just my 2 cents worth as a cancer patient.
Cheers,
Gary
Dear Wanda, May God guide you in the best decision on the drugs.
God\'s blessings on you both for a wonderful week-end!
Hugs,
Lois
Hello Precious Wanda,
It truly is wonderful that Steve will be eligible for the new trial. He\'s done amazingly wellfor so long...just know that he will continue to do so.
Keep the faith, Sweetie!
Lots of Love,
Ingrid
Dear Wanda,
That really is good news, our GOD does always help us thru it doesn\'t he!! continued prayers my friend, Annette
Dear Wanda, You are doing all anyone can do. You put one foot in front of the other and move forward, little by little into the unknown future. We\'ve talked about living in the \"now\" and at times, that is impossible when the weight of this terrible disease is on our shoulders. You just hang on my dear friend. I am keeping you and Steve in my prayers. Love, Linda
Hi Wanda,
What is Vytorin supposed to be for? Steve seems to be doing so well on the Sutent and I know his dosage scheduling was recently changed (for the better), so I don\'t know why there is this new drug being suggested. If it is the Votrient, that also doesn\'t sound right, since Votrient and Sutent are basically functioning in the same mode. Tom took Votrient with great success for about a year, and was stable for nearly as long after it. The Afinitor was awful and did him much harm. We never really got a fair chance with the Nexavar, although heaven knows we tried.....and tried.
So if it ain\'t broke, as they say,why fix it? Love to you both.
Gloria
Hey all my friends. I am so sorry I named the wrong drug!! Gary you are so right, I take Vytorin for cholesterol, LOL ( I told some of you I was losing it.) I did mean to say Votrient. And the doctor said he would stay on Sutent for as long as it worked. Steve will be scanned in 4 weeks and I do hope he can have the contrast this time. It makes it so much easier to see the tumors. Because of his one kidney the doctor won\'t administer it if above 2. I supposed the doctor wanted us to know what was becoming available. The whole process of changing drugs scares me. Thank you all for your responses and you Gary for keeping me straight.
Love, Wanda
Dear Wanda - it sounds like there are a lot of options open for Steve IF it turns out that the Sutent is no longer viable (and, remember, he can always rechallenge it further along the line - it\'s worked so very well for him once - not at all inconceivable from what I\'ve read that after trying something else for a while, he could go back on the Sutent and it will work once more).
I so know what you mean about stopping to think about it. It can take you into a dark place. But, pushing it to another place does, somehow, work most of the time. I\'m so thankful for that, as it makes the days liveable. No, more than that - even enjoyable, which i never thought would be possible in the days after dx.
lots of love, Meriel
To all of you, my precious friends
It is hard to talk about the financial terms or the what ifs. We have been blessed to stay in this battle for a long long time. 13 years and running. When his cancer first came back in 2002 we had the alarm installed and just started living as hard as we could. We traveled as much as we could afford and now we just know that every day just watching tv or drinking coffee in the morning is a blessing. I completely know that we are so blessed. I thank God every single day. I cry for Meriel who has just begun a life with David. For Gloria who did not get enough time with Tom. All of you who have had to start a new life without your mate. God how will I do it? I just can\'t go there this morning. I am not a healthy girl myself. I keep thinking of the old hymn, \"God will take care of you\". I love each of you. Take care my cyber sisters.
