I remember years back I was vacationing in California. And being from Australia you obtain many questions and everyone is obviously intrigued by your accent.
Anyway, I started a conversation with this twenty something lady and she was telling me she was likely to visit Australia next year.
Her plan was to stay for 2 months, fly to Sydney and take day trips from there. Which seems like a fabulous plan.
There are lots of things-to see and do around Sydney for day trips. Sydney has a great zoo and aquarium. The Blue Mountains with guides and beautiful look outs can be a day trip. In another way may be the Southern Highlands with more beautiful points.
Visit popular Bondi Beach and other beaches near Sydney, take-in a couple of National Parks. Oh and I very nearly forgot, look at the Opera House and climb the harbor bridge. Well the list continues and there are more than enough things to see in and around Sydney to keep you busy for more than a week.
But no. Her plan was to remain in Sydney and take day journeys to Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef.
I looked over her and asked her again what are your plans?. And Yes sure enough she in the pipeline to keep in Sydney and travel to The Great Barrier Reef and Uluru for day trips.
But that is difficult I said, and informed her that Australia is practically exactly the same size as the United States. No matter what I said, she would maybe not believe me In the event that you dont believe me then go and look at this map http://www.ga.gov.au/education/facts/dimensions/compare.htm.
Australia is the sixth largest nation and the largest island on the planet.
From Sydney to Uluru is 2,795km that's 1,735 miles and from Sydney to Mackay (middle area of the Reef) it is 1,715km about 1065 miles.
At the very least one thousand miles one way. There's no real way this trip can be achieved.
Also flying from Sydney towards The Great Barrier Reef is at the very least 4 hours one-way flying time. And the Truly Amazing Barrier Reef itself uses up a location half the size of Texas.
Now, I have maybe not told you this to put you off arriving at visit Australia. Far from it. But only come informed. Enjoy your journey, visit the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru and Sydney they are all interesting and worthy of your time.
