Do not be defined by your disease.

I am a recovering heroin and meth addict. I am 6 years sober in July. Every day can be a battle for me. I get stuck thinking about all of the bad things I have once done. All the quilt that hides deep inside of me comes to the surface sometimes, and I feel like I can not breath. I am overloaded, and when my brain shuts down, all I can think about are the bad memories of addiction. The trauma, if you will. I am trying to remind myself, that I am not going to let this disease grab ahold of me in sobriety as well. I just have to take it one day at a time.
