Discovery Channel

Yesterday afternoon they were having a tv show about medical mysteries. There was a man who'd had issues with his gall bladder, being sick to his stomach, depression and anxiety. He had his gall bladder taken out,but it didn't not solve his problems and he became sicker and sicker. Years later his son started in with the same problems and the same actions were taken...only they took a liver biopsy. The Dr came in and told the son, "You are not going to believe this, but you have a RARE disorder of the blood called Hemochromatosis."
I couldn't help but laugh because for one, I don't consider it rare...What's rare is the Drs knowledge of it and the diagnosis...and for two, this would be the first time i've ever heard Hemochromatosis mentioned on tv.
The poor guy went for so long feeling horrible and I was thinking if only Drs would start a regular screening of the disorder...so many people could be saved from so much!
I sat there wondering if my life long battle with depression and anxiety were linked to my HH. My mom always insisted she knew there was something more to it...The problem now is I don't dare tell my Drs i'm suffering with any depression or anxiety or i won't be treated for the REAL issue and i'll be swept under the rug and drugged to death.
The man and son said after they started their phlebs that their depression and anxiety had gotten so much better. They said after all HH had caused and reeked havoc on their bodies...they were taking it one day at a time.
After the short clip-being it was just one of the ten mysteries..I began to feel that maybe from here on out-Drs will start doing more and learning more and we'll get better treatment and guide lines on how to manage. We won't be treated like we've only fallen down and scraped our knees....
