What is the Langtang Valley Trek?

Langtang Valley Trek is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and majestic valleys in the world. The valley is located in the Himalayas, and spans across Langtang National Park and Langtang Valley Trekking Area. With its towering mountains, pristine lakes, and lush forests, it’s no wonder this area has become a popular tourist destination.

The trek starts from Jumla, a small town located in the Kathmandu Valley. From here, you’ll drive to Kagbeni where you’ll board a local bus for the journey into the hills. It will take around six hours to reach your base camp at an altitude of 3,500 meters (11,500 feet). From here, you can choose between several different trails that lead into the valley.

The scenery throughout the valley is simply breathtaking. You’ll see glaciers calving off mountaintops into turquoise-colored lakes, dense forests filled with monkeys and bears, and steep slopes covered in wildflowers. Along the way there are also several monasteries and Hindu temples which provide excellent views of the surrounding countryside.

When you finish hiking the valley, make sure to visit some of Jumla’s top attractions such as Thame Tsechu Temple or Phewa Lake Palace Hotel for some good old Nepali hospitality!

How to make the most of your 10 days in the Langtang Valley?

Step 1: Arrive in Langtang Valley

If you are arriving in the valley by air, head for the domestic airport in Kathmandu. If you are arriving by road, take NH33 which runs north-south through the valley. You will need to switch to a 4WD vehicle once outside of Kathmandu. The drive from Kathmandu takes about six hours and is fairly straight forward.

When you arrive in the valley, your first task will be to hire a guide. There are many reputable operators in the valley, but we recommend hiring one who has local knowledge and who can show you around on foot as well as provide transport back to your starting point if required. A full day trek with an experienced guide (including lunch) costs around US$60 per person.

Step 2: The trek into the valley

The first few kilometres of your walk into the valley have some of the most dramatic scenery in all of Nepal. You’ll cross a wide stream on an iron bridge before hiking uphill for about half an hour through dense forest. Once out of the forest and onto open hillsides, you’ll start seeing glimpses of snow-capped peaks towering above you to your right – Mt Annapurna is easily visible from here! Soon after, you’ll reach a small village called Biratnagar where you’ll spend the night if desired (though most people do not stop here). From here onwards, it’s just a straightforward
