Diogenes of Sinope and me
Good morning journal, the time is 8:25am,I have been awake for most of the night, but I am reasonably rested, and, apart from by back,am relatively pain free.I had a call from my cognitive behavioral therapist on Friday morning,he very kindly rescheduled my appointment to the 10th of February as it was snowing and bitterly cold, with heavy ice underfoot,he didn't want me to run the risk of falling and injuring myself,I am grateful for his consideration as I was not looking forward to venturing outside with a walking cane.I have to see my doctor on the 28th of January, let's hope the weather is better as I can't miss that visit,my current medication does not seem to be working as effectively as I had hoped it would, and I am hoping that he will either change it or up the dosage as my therapist recommended.I still have no news of my hearing aids being ready for me,my hearing is becoming much worse, and it is irritating to both myself and my wife,as I have to have the television volume louder than necessary to enable me to hear, and I also sometimes cannot hear her when she speaks to me.Hopefully I will hear from the hospital soon and can pick them up,it would certainly solve one problem if I could hear better.
You know journal,I have always admired philosophers, but lately none more so than Diogenes of Sinope, who decided to simply withdraw from the world and live in an earthenware jug with his dogs.He had no material possessions,no house,no money;he begged for a living, and made a virtue out of poverty. He was known as a cynic, from the Greek word kynikos, meaning dog like,he admired dogs over humans because,to him, dogs lived naturally, eating anything and sleeping anywhere, and instinctively knowing who was friend or foe;living only for the present, with no fear of the future.Humans on the other hand, lived artificially and hypocritically, and would do well to study the dog,who was unafraid to demonstrate every feeling and emotion in public, unlike it's human counterpart, who hid themselves behind closed blinds to perform the same functions which the dog performed unashamedly, and without fear, under the public gaze.I can buy into his way of thinking, just stop the world and get off, simple!;and if things don't take a turn for the better in my life,we could be looking at the twenty first century incarnation of the great man himself!;that appeals to me greatly,in a masochistic, morbid type of way, just to be free,no worries,no bills,no responsibilities;hey,a man can dream can't he?.
Now journal,it is time to return to reality;I must away from this place and take my place in the real world, reluctant though I may be.I will endeavor to return tomorrow,God willing,to converse with you once more;until then,I will continue to fight the good fight,as it were, for there is no other choice except death, and I am not quite ready to go just yet, till tomorrow then, peace be with us.
