Dinner at my Sister's

Today I got to go over to my sister's for dinner. It was nice... she made corn chowder from scratch, along with homemade cornbread and canned biscuits. The soup was very good, just what we needed on this cold night. I got to spend some time with my little brother, David, who I get to see very rarely. I don't talk about him much... he's my half brother. When my dad died, David was 4 and he went to go live with his mom, my stepmother, and I went to go live with my mom. My stepmother is a bit out there when it comes to religion (and I should know, I've been in a cult) and so I didn't like to go over there too much because she was so critical about everything. She didn't even like that I watched regular TV “because they show pornography”. I'm sure she meant something like Victoria's Secret ads, because I didn't even have cable to watch stuff that really would borderline on porn. She was that extreme. I haven't seen her in years... I'm scared to, because Geo and I aren't officially married and she would refuse to let me see David if she knew I was living with Geo and not married.
I think I'm getting a bit used to the weather here. I just took off my sweater and I'm not freezing. It's about 50 degrees outside, and so it's cold. Especially compared to Miami, where it's probably 70 right now (and midnight). Tonight it's supposed to get down into the mid 40's. When I first got here I was freezing all the time, and now I'm getting used to it. I wouldn't go outside without my sweater on, but it's getting warmer in here and so I can take it off. I'm in a long sleeved shirt and fleece pants, so I'm in warm clothes (and my legs are under the covers), but I get a nice chill from the window. It helps me stay grounded in my warmth. My fingers are starting to get cold, but that's normal. I've been coughing a bit, so I hope I'm not getting sick. The last thing I want to do on my vacation is get sick. That's what I get for traveling during flu season.
We also went to the movies today. We saw a spy double feature- Tinker Tailor Sailor Spy and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. The Tinker Tailor movie was really hard for me to follow... it was slow in the beginning, and then I was getting everyone confused. I'm so used to actors all looking different so I could follow who was who, and these were all older men with white hair and they were all white. So I was having trouble telling who was who. I guess it's just me. I know my brother and stepdad liked it, so that's good for them. I liked Mission Impossible better. It had more action, and it's made for American audiences so you get hit over the head with a Clue Bat when they want to drive a point home. In Tinker Tailor, one of the characters is gay, but I didn't get that from the movie. I heard my brother and stepdad talk about it on the ride home. It didn't really change anything, but one of the clues was a picture of two men side-hugging. I thought it was just a friendly picture, but apparently there was more to it than that. If it was an American film, the guys would be kissing so there would be no doubt that the character was gay.
Food today was good. I'm really low on protein today, but I got in a good variety of fruits and veggies. That's not counting the corn I had in the popcorn. I had an orange with breakfast, some dried fruits at the movies, and corn chowder with salad for dinner. I got the freshest orange you could get- I picked it myself off the tree in the backyard. It was so good, even though it was cold. I think tomorrow I'm going to get myself some more, since it's just in the backyard. My stepdad has a lot of plants and trees, just like my dad. He takes care of them and spends a ton of time every day watering. I had to water some plants on Friday, before they turned off the water to work on the toilet. Mood is good today... even though I was confused with the movie, I still had a good time. I had a good time with my sister as well, and it's nice to see her and my brothers. I'm glad I'm hanging out with family more this time around, and I have plenty of more time to go and see them. I'm looking forward to Friday when I get to see my Nana. I heard some gossip about her and my aunt today, but I'm trying to be neutral and see what's going on with my own eyes. I just want to stay on my Nana and aunt's good sides. We will see how that trip goes when I get there, I guess.
