dinner at k's "grapes of wrath"//48 degrees at night//3 more rescues//akamai broke ds
we are having a cold spell around 48 degrees at night and in the very early morning. so heat on high and two wool blankets and socks. need to have all of my down stuff readied for winter (which in this area is more like a northern fall). am having big inside at night, but you still can't trust him, so he is generally crated indoors. i think he is getting old (he's seven) and is glad to be in when its cold out, instead of demanding to go out again - but he is still acting out.
wish i would journal more. i can't remember the week very well. had a stressful day because the rescue we are about to do, the woman we have to deal with, appears to be nuts and had another call for more bottlefeeds - have to call her back to make sure she doesn't do something stupid with them like bring them to the pound where they will kill them. she let me know that one of the newer rescue groups around here, the woman running it had a stroke, so she closed down. another one, only in her 40's. she used to charge for each animal she took in...we don't do that, though supplies would help a lot.
the rescue from last week seems to be doing well. i hope. its taking 5 - 7ml of kmr from a syringe, another 9 ml of syringe fed water and a small plate of warmed friskes chicken tid bits 3 times per day. it has 4 teeth. it sleeps on a heating pad on low inside a basket with a pad and towel lining the basket, inside an indoor rabbit cage. i covered the cage with a heavy towel (learned this from rn, i used to use a sheet) and it seems to hold the warm better that way and seems more content that way. hope it makes it. its EXTREMELY skinny and boney and i don't know how it survived at all as its definitely over 6 weeks, but the body size of one much younger. i let it sleep with the crippled cat, michele, a bit today because michele is good with orphaned kittens. good girl shelley. lol.
we are having dramas at work. new accounts that are making everyone anxious and one of the guys was a no-sho, no call, so we have to replace him (9 times in 4 years). they already sent possible recruits and its awkward. he knows something is up. hate this part, but there's no other way. i warned him in august to get a cell phone of his own as it will save his job. he uses his girlfriend's and we can never reach him. this last time he finally called back TEN HOURS LATER. half the time when he is no sho its medical (but then CALL - sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't) and the other half its him forgetting or who knows what. his job is visible so he absolutely has to be here. and no he isn't young, he just does this. then he gets nervous because jobs are scarce and he needs the money.
finally went to k's for dinner. i think he's actually still sick. brought over all the clams and stuff that have been in my freezer for MONTHS and mai tai pre-mixed that i got at the hope store. i totally love mai tais it was one of my first alcohol drinks as a minor at chinese restaurants where they don't card. i could get one with my older friends and couldn't get one with my friends that were my own age. lol. remember that too well. had beef vegetable soup, baked potato, salad, gourmet short bread cookies (from the hope store) coffee, and the mai tais as cocktails. its made with rum (which actually gives me migraine, so have to drink them with advils. lol) watched the grapes of wrath with henry fonda (never saw it before and never read it. wow! henry fonda was really good looking when he was young. its a very sad movie about the dust bowl and how badly people were treated when they moved to california as pickers and farmers. amazing how much blatant corruption existed in local government back then. its an excellent movie but i wouldn't want to watch it a lot. its too depressing and sad.
saw w for a few hours as well and shaved the back of his neck for him. his bathroom add-on is coming along great. also did the return of the two himalayan kittens and cat. they WERE hiding like the woman said. took 30 minutes to get out the one that knows me and TWO HOURS to get out mr's. it took both me and her husband to corner that one! mr blames the adoptors. i said its a beautiful warm home with lots of food and freedom - as good as it gets. they were hiding under a platform guest bed in her den. have no idea why. since it came back it is following me everywhere. beautiful kitten. surprises me everytime something like that happens.

Oh seriously, DS isn\'t responsible for this journal mess up! Very interesting. I sure do hope they get it together soon. It\'s been way too long with this journal thing. I\'m glad you set up a new account. Smart move.
Mai Tai\'s! Never had one. Heard of them though...the name of the drink makes it sound like it tastes good! You can let me know! LOL....
When you have an employee that\'s a no show, and you warn him, and ask him to get a cell phone....and nothing is being done right by him...you have to do, what you have to do. I know it\'s hard, but you are running a caring business, and people who work there, have to CARE. Nuff said! Good job!
lmao! darla you always think i do rescue as a job! i don\'t. i do mortgages as a job. and its a money job. not that caring. lol. you are a trip! rescue is merely a hobby!
he really is a problem though. mostly reliable and then a few times per year this crap. by company policy he should have been let go over 3 years ago. what a pain in my butt!
Glad you rescue as a hobby. Our animals need people like you. no show workers, unreliable and disrespectful. ~~~no excuse really unless its not regular hours or ad hoc employment. Hope that ds sort out the problem soon
Hi Hon,
It is great to hear that Michele is being a Mom to the little one, have you named this one yet? I can\'t believe how cold it has gotten up there. But we too were like 51 here one night. Now it is warm again. Weird weather this year. Not a typical year at all.
That man at work should be axed and it should have been a long time ago, as there are many unemployed people who would love to have a job. I just don\'t understand that company at all.
Good luck on the adoptions and the bottle feeds too.
Love U XXOO
its not the company, its us. its north florida. people take off from work because its sunny out and go fishing and are shocked that people EXPECT them to work. he is from here. he is truly broke which also makes no sense because he has no mortgage and i checked and his back taxes are still not paid. the whole thing is weird.
our former supervisor gave him an easier job because he was screwing up the harder stuff. i put him back to some harder stuff because he should be able to do it, only to discover, most of the time he won\'t do it right at all! wow! its like the \"peter principle thing\" you get promoted a lot and ultimately you are promoted into something you cannot do and need to demote yourself on and on. i\'ll find the principle on line and post it. i should have kept him at the easy stuff ONLY, but the hard stuff isn\'t that hard so i figured the former boss was just being mean. NOT. i also noticed he was sweating it out (physically) just with the idea of doing the harder stuff. you know how that is.
i remember this kind of stuff with photography. one of the guys told me he was so nervous before he shot his first wedding that he actually threw up the night before. that kind of thing. lol. you can\'t screw up a wedding because its a one shot deal, a lot different than portraiture. and we all begin with portraiture which is posed and can be re-scheduled etc. and re shot.... so hard to guage these guys because he wanted to do the bigger stuff at one point. i have another one that always says he can do things that he NEVER can do. one of those. the kind that is WRONG a lot, but is so enthusiastic in thinking he is right that you believe him, and then its a disaster when you try him at anything or double check his work (and thank god you can do that with paper work) and its wrong. good thing he doesn\'t work in a hospital! lol.
even at the easier position he does the no show thing. then he had all the papers out because his latest defense is he is certain we were basically \"closed\" that day. people are living in a fantasy world. seriously. so many are. even the guy who is basically good and organized. screwed up recently and seemed to have completely forgotten WHY things are done a certain way. he was written up several months ago two times in a row for screwing up and here he was again. its amazing. the only thing i can think of is age? maybe that matters. forgetful with age. i have that too, but i don\'t hink i\'m oblivious. i think i notice what i do. and set reminders and re-read directions because i know when i\'m malfunctioning.
yeah michele really comes through for the little ones. what a surprise and glad to see it. its 68 right now. so we are back to balmy and its 9 p.m. yay! hope it stays like this.
its not the company. i hate firing people. i prefer to re-train than to fire. he\'ll lose his seniority from all this as well. he\'s been here 4 1/2 years. he\'ll be at the bottom now.
Omgoodness. I keep saying that your journal.......now that I can get it.......the print is so teeny tiny..........I can\'t read it. I\'m sorry.
i keep forgetting to enlarge the print after i write it, because on my computer the print is normal size. i noticed when i looked at it at the library the print was too small to read on their computer? so weird! the other way is to go to the corner of your screen and just enlarge it on your screen to 125% maybe that is why as i have my screen set at 125? because ds is too small for me without that?
there you go, its edited to 4 on the font thing? for some reason when i write with it like that, it bothers me. so i keep forgetting to enlarge it afterward.
