Dillon's Psych Appointment
Hey all. Hope everyone is doing okay. I have an appointment set up for my four year old for intake into a psychiatrist. As some of you may know, Dillon is autistic. His tantrums are getting worse. He bangs his head on anything, slaps himself in the face and head, bites, kicks and slaps us. I also believe he is ADD/ADHD as he never stops. Am I doing the right thing? I don't care about him hurting me which he has done before, but I worry about him giving himself a head injury or summat because he really goes at it. Violently. Has anybody else experienced this with a child? Thanks for your support and input. Have a wonderful day.

I have never been around an autistic child so I don\'t know what you\'re going through. I do hope, however, that the intake goes well and that Dillon can get rhe help he needs. Good luck and keep us posted on how it is going. Many hugs, \"Tinks\"
I\'ve never had any experience with that, but I wanted to let you know that I\'ll keep you in my thoughts. I hope things go well when Dillon goes to see the psychiatrist.

i am sorry to say i dont have any experience with this. but i am certain that you are doing the right thing to get the help that you need to get for him.. good luck and please keep us posted as to how he is doing ..god bless .hugs ..marie

Hi chelle. I\'ve experienced a little of it in the preschool(spec needs/austism) where I work pt. A few if the children are medicated I believe. When they tantrum, we just do everything to assure they don\'t hurt themselves. Can be difficult. I can imagine keeping a child this affected safe 24/7. We have 1 staff per 2-3 children.
Your child sounds severe. You need to do what is best to keep him safe. Is he enrolled in a special needs school?
He goes to the regular headstart program here, but they have a special ed class that he is in. They are really good with the kids. I do not have one bad thing to say about them. I would like to get him into some additional therapies especially the behavioral therapy as it might help with the tantrums from what I have read. I am just waiting on insurance to kick in now.
