dilemma
Ever since the preschool school I taught at shut down I haven't had the interest or the energy to seek work elsewhere because having my high maintanance son over these past few years really required me to be around. Late last summer when the school year was approaching, I found myself offering to babysit a friend of mine's preschool children while she worked and her husband, who was new to recovery, went on his various appointments - doctor, court, urine screenings, etc. Sometimes he'd have me come 1/2 early so that he could work out or stay an hour or so longer so that he could shop, or exercise. I really enjoyed sitting these girls, especially since I missed this age group and teaching. This fellow, a former emergency room doctor, although an adult and in recovery - he still sometimes would remind me of my son (a bit sef-centered. I've been sitting sometimes 1 to 3x's a week usually about 3 to 4 hours at a time for them. And I've been doing it for free. I've done it because I know that they are struggling in more ways than one. Now, however, I'm struggling with what to do now because he just e-mailed me and asked me to sit again. On one hand, I enjoy it and want to help them out......On the other hand, I feel like I'm being taken advantage of. Honestly, he did offer to pay me when I told him I was going to start looking for a job a few months back......but I told him no. I told him the time wasn't right and that we should leave things the way they are for now. I know I sound wishy-washy - and that's because I am about this situation. Maybe now, however, since it's starting to bother me more than than before that he hasn't offered anything - a thank you gift card or thank you note or another offer to pay me...... So perhaps I have my answer...... A few weeks ago another friend of ours asked my husband and I to help chaperone her students on a field trip. Since these were high school students it was extremely easy and we got to see the place they went for free and enjoy it without really having to do anything. She made us homemade bread for the help. Perhaps if this guy would have offered something for his appreciation, than I guess I wouldn't feel used. I could use the $, too. We woke up this morning finding a note that T wrote, saying that he got up at the crack of dawn, was going to eat breakfast and then call us. At least he left a note but he didn't call. He came strolling in at two in the afternoon saying he forgot to call. I told him that that was uncalled for. A phone call isn't asking much. Fortunately, he was with some girls and told us all he did. They had good clean fun. I like these girls. T then cut the lawn. He seems great!

Unfortunately, many people will continue to take advantage until asked to stop, or until we withdraw. You obviously have a generous heart, but there is nothing wrong with stating that you are \"money-motivated\" at the present time (who isn\'t?) Be good to yourself.
With regard to the sitter situation, set an end date and give them a chance to find a reliable sitter. This gives you \"me\" time, middle school project time, or a chance to volunteer elsewhere or pick up a part time job. Stick to the date!!! Take Care!! PS It\'s not just a guy thing as he is married right?...they could have expressed their appreciation in some token manner.
