difficult week

We spent the last week in Thunder Bay (my home town) as my sister is in the hospital.  My sister's family is, for lack of a better term, dysfuntional.  My twin nieces hate each other. One is an alcoholic.  Both nephews are alcoholics.  My sister and her husband favoured the alcoholics and particularly favoured my youngest nephew who has serious psych problems in addition to his alcoholism.  I won't go in to details, but suffice it to say, I was sworn at, for the first time in my 72 years (in the hopsital hallway) by my alcoholic nieces son.

My sister is slowly improving.  There is a family meeting today with the discharge planner and the team to plan where she will go. She needs to be in a long term care home.  She absolutely cannot go home as she lives with my psychotic son. I voiced my concerns to the manager and social worker and came home.  I really don't want to be at that meeting!  I rarely am glad to go home from anywhere, but yesterday, I couldn't wait to be home!!!

On a happier note, we are excited as we leave for Ottawa to visit with Cevyn and the twins on the 23rd.  I can't wait to cuddle the babies.  They are growning so fast.  I guess they are becoming a handful as they are walking.  It should be fun.  Then we head for Europe at the end of the month - our 50th anniversary gift to each other!

Off to exercises now!

Lisa, I wish you had been with us in TB.  You always had a way with all the family.  I can't wait to see your beautiful grandies.  I miss you always and love you forever, Mummy

It certainly feels as if it was a challenging week dear Marlene. Deepest of sighs. Family dynamics can be dicey enough and then one adds alcoholism in the midst and it's a powder keg ready to ignite at any moment. What matters most is your sister's long term care and you voiced what you feel should happen for her and I hope that the best possible outcome will be hers.

I know you are looking forward to your trip and counting down the days. Those Littles grow SO fast!

Take care of yourself and I'm so sorry about what was said to you and always it's about them, yet being in the midst of it hurts. Tend to yourself, your feelings and please do let us know about your sister.

Gentle care and tender hugs to Lisa's mum from Douglas and me,
XO Joanie

OH boy....do I ever understand dysfunctional, alcoholic homes....sad to say. I'm sorry for the drama and disrespect that you had to deal with, and glad you voiced your concerns and just left. I am very glad to hear your sister is improving, and hope it continues, and hope too that the best possible facility will be found quickly and she'll make the transition easily.

I LOVE seeing pictures of the twins on FB!! They are just SO darn cute! And yes, growing so fast. I'm sure you want to yell SLOW DOWN, lol. Please give Ceyvn my best, and let her know I think of her often and am glad we had the chance to meet.

WHAT A TRIP!!! I think it's totally fabulous that y'all are gifting yourselves with a European trip for your 50th! How special!! And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY a little early!

Lots of love and safe travels my sweet friend~

Hi Marlene,
I'm so sorry you had all that drama to deal with while being concerned for and caring for your sister. I hope she has a gentle transition to the long term facility. You can only do what you can do in these situations and clearly, you did your best.

So much to look forward to in the next couple of weeks! I know how much seeing Cevyn and those darling great-grandchildren means to you and Joe!

And your trip to Europe is such a wonderful gift you gave to each other. Have a wonderful time!

Oh my dear Marlene...a very heartbreaking situation. Please do not take it to heart...some people do not have the skills to handle hard times, and lash out at others to spite their face...at least it sounds like that to me.

Enjoy the littles and Cevyn...and Europe! Wow, that is a wonderful gift to each other. Happy 50th wedding anniversary!
