Diagnosis w/ a Hint of humor
So today I am going to find humor in my life. I went to meet with the new RE yesterday- finally- for my second opinion. Although bummed that DH couldn't come because of work, I felt really comfortable with him. I was a little afraid that I would have a hard time understanding him, as he is from Vietnam and my first RE was from Germany and I could barely understand him. I was pleasantly surprised with his English (that may sound bad, but you all know how hard it is to understand IF stuff to begin with, yet alone not be able to understand the person's English who is speaking). His first words were, "Tell me your story and what has brought you here." really?? A Dr. wanting to hear things come from me and not just talk himself?!? I explained to him why I was second guessing my first RE and what I have read and how deep down I am confident that I have PCOS and that an IUI on it's own isn't going to solve my problem. I also explained to him what my accupuncturist had said about her also believing that I have PCOS and her wanting me to look into using Metformin- After hearing my symptoms for PCOS and looking at my charts again, he said that my accupuncturist is a very smart woman and he was impressed. Initially he scared me because he wants to re-run ALL of my blood work and husbands semen analysis. I almost started to cry, because insurance does not repeat any testing- only the initial tests and I know that we can't afford more tests right now, as DH is on partial layoff. Dr. Koh said not to worry, that the tests are for my PCOS because he is confident that that is what I suffer from, and assured me that all ultrasounds and blood work would be coded accordingly and would not have to worry about any of the costs- bless his heart. I guess I am relieved to have a diagnosis, scared though because it is a pretty serious one, although we will see what my bloodwork comes back and how serious my case is. Now- the funny part... I have had a rash on my stomach for about two months, it started as a small circle and got bigger. We didn't know what it was, but I figured it would go away. Well, over vacation more spots began to pop up- including one on my boob. DH told me that I should mention it to my RE to see if he knew what it was- so I did- RINGWORM!?!?! I almost died. He said he didn't know much about it, but would have his nurse practioner write the prescription. He went out and talked to her, then popped his head back in and said, "You no worry, not real worm!" It was hilarious with his accent and I couldn't stop laughing! I had a meeting last night so DH went to pick up the prescription, when he got there the pharmacist said that I didn't need a prescription and showed my husband what to buy for me- Yeast Infection cream!! Okay, it grossed me out to put it on my stomach, but I find it hilarious because DH had to buy it for me, and it was a guy cashier who apparently looked at the box, then at my husband, back at the box, then back at DH with a strange look on his face- my husband of course pleaded his case of how it was for his wife who had ringworm! Too funny though, I wish I would have been there to see it play out! So here I sit- waiting 2 1/2 more weeks until AF arrives, unless of course a miracle happens this month. In the mean time, I guess I will apply Vagisil to my stomach for the next three weeks, as prescribed by the pharmacist- what a way to pass my rime, right?? At least I can laugh about it!
