In the Marvel Comics model of the Transformers the birth of the Constructicons is pretty straight forward. Decepticon Leader Shockwave ordered the generation of six new Decepticon beings which where given life by the Creation Matrix, removed from the then caught Optimus Prime. The Constructicons received living and virtually no time was wasted. They developed a big radio dish which Soundwave used as a communications formulate between Planet and Cybertron. The Autobots attempted to jam the giant drive, but they were conquered by the Constructicons who mixed into  yelp scraper  the all effective Devastator to get the task completed with ease.

The Autobots wherever really satisfied with Devastator's mixing ability, ergo they attempted to replicate the creation of an identical Transformer who could combine into a larger and better being. But these were only able to produce an Omega Supreme made from the combination of three non sentient machines. This drove the Autobots to entice Transformer Devastator from the Decepticon foundation and identify him to collect more details about his composition. When this is achieved the Autobots can eventually develop Superion who was simply created from the mix of the brand new Aerialbots.
