Delano Park

Where I live, there's a park that started back in the 1930's. It's called Delano Park. The park bought the block of land next to it I belive in the 1970's. There was houses on that block just like the ones around the park.

Within these houses, resides a family where the son became connected and freinded by Elvis Presley. Elvis would visit at times. He would sometimes drive his from Memphis or take the train. The train depot confirmed that Elvis would depart here many times.

In fact, an old lady made a post on fb that she said, she would get Elvis' autograph when he arived and there was always a croud. One time, she brought an autographed glossy of Elvis for him to sign again. She said Elvis asked her why she wanted him to sign it again when he already signed it. She told Elvis, theres so many autographs of you where theres only one autograph on the piece. Who has something autographed by him twice? Makes sense. If I can find the post, I'll share it here. It's been a couple years but it's on a local group.

Elvis' friend lived in the park very near the water tower. I looked up the location, which was extremely difficult since documentation wasn't a priority in the 1950's and he didnt have papers showing he lived here. I had to go under his parents name to find the address and look up county maps of where the street would have been laid and the approximate area of where that address location would have been on todays land. I found the location of the residence within a small accurate area.

His friend moved out of his parents house and strait into Graceland. Elvis' friend who resided and grew up where this park is currently at, is none the less is, Mr. Legend himself, Charlie Hodge.

Lol. It's ok bill. He's a behind the scenes guy.

Charlie was Elvis' best friend. He was a musician, vocal coach and also a member of what was called the Memphis Mafia. They were generally his friends that also acted as his security.

After the Sharron Tate incident, Elvis said this can happen to anyone, so he had bars put on the windows of Graceland and had his people carry guns. Even Elvis had a gun hidden on him while he performed.

He had a couple attack attempts on stage and on one of them, it was audio recorded but no video. Attendees said he performed martial arts on the supposed attacker and he was in shape and fit to defend himself using MA.

I have been a music lover all my life. In fact, my first live music event, I remember seeing an Elvis impersonator summer of '77 and a couple weeks later he was on the tv news saying he died. It took 25 years before my parents admitted it was not the actual Elvis.

This town has only 3 structures left over that was built before the Civil War. Just look up the history of Decatur Alabama. It's historic and I'm a lover of history. It's where we came from and what shapes our current society. Not just here, but as a nation. Theres a lot that has happened here that has effected our entire country. It's a ripple of humanity.
