Decisions, Decisions

Tomorrow evening is the Post Falls surgical seminar.  I'm so anxious to get started with this journey but there are still decisions to be made.  That I'm going to do something is certain.  The questions are "what" and "where".  I'm hoping that after the seminar I'll know what to do. 1.  Lapband or Gastric Bypass?   The lapband is least invasive, has less side-effects, can be adjusted and doesn't permanently alter my internal organs.  No dumping.  No electrolyte imbalance.  No hair loss. On the other hand, how many diets have I been on only to plateau after 20lbs and gain my weight back as my metabolism goes into starvation mode and shuts down?  I suspect I made need the malabsorption in order to accomplish my goals. 2.  Post Falls or Spokane? I really strongly prefer Post Falls.  The thought of having this surgery and follow-up in a huge medical center in downtown Spokane is a little more than this country girl wants to face.  Post Falls is small and personal, easier to get to and 5 minutes from my parent's home which would give me a lot more options getting to group and appointments working around my 12-hour shifts.  Both places are Centers of Excellence for bariatrics and come highly recommended by my doctor. Should be a no-brainer except that Post Falls is in a different state.  My primary insurance covers it but my secondary only covers facilities in Washington and Alaska.  My secondary, through my husband, doesn't cover bariatric surgery so that part doesn't matter.  But it will pick up what my primary doesn't on follow-up care, physical therapy, mental health, dieticians etc.  In our financial situation every penny we can save is important. My hope is that the Post Falls facility also works with Spokane ancillary services.  That would be ideal.  Well...we'll find out tomorrow!  I'm so excited!  I'm going to my folk's place after work in the morning and will sleep there...save an hour and a half commute home and back.  Mom's going with me.  With over 40 years of nursing under her belt she's a good second set of eyes and ears.
