December Therapy
When my husband and I married in 1980, my therapy was well under way. All the labels have changed since then, but my current recovery program was well established enough for my husband to have an idealized awareness of what he was getting himself into. Ah, young hormones...
At that stage my "trauma induced amnesia" had been spotted in therapy but I was thoroughly resistant to the idea that it needed fixing. Ongoing family dysfunctions offered plenty of clues on the content of those blocked memories and I saw zero benefit in even going there. Ah, to be young enough to know everything...
Our very first Christmas together found us on our Merry way to present my new husband and 10 month old son to my raucous clan. My reaction was... Profoundly irrational... In my 2012 PTSD therapy, we might call it a "well-triggered denial."
Tim Burton produced a film whose title I might borrow to headline our next few Yule Tide Seasons. "The Nightmare Before Christmas." It stayed an annual nightmare - literally as well as figuratively - until we finally separated and begun to evolve our current tradition of he and the sons going to his parents tree while I double up on my therapy program. That program grew to respect and allow the lowering of those memory blocks. The fairies and elves who visited the family trees during my childhood are still not fit material for Christmas cards but at least now I can remember them without triggering between rage and paralysis. Just more dirty pictures... Mine was a very pornographic childhood. Ho ho ha...

feel better! how about buddihism, a lot of people like that one. a book on religions of the world. you go through them and choose something else. why hurt yourself at all by staying with something that didn\'t work, even if its not the religions fault, it is what it is.
