December 5, 2011

Yes, I did get back to the gym on Saturday.  Mostly because the lady next door decided to blow out her driveway with the leaves.  2 hrs.  I thought it was the people next door (I live in a duplex - the other side of me).  Drove me crazy.  I got to the gym and did 15 minutes on the treadmill.  Its amazing how out of shape I was starting to get.  I did walk for 2 and ran for 1.  I only stayed on the 0.0 incline.  I didn't venture and go up and down with the incline.  That will come later.  This is my 1st week.  Its important to get my stamina and endurance back.  It shouldn't take too long.  My heart rate did go up alittle bit - 175.  Not good.  That will get better in time too.  Then I went on the bike (not the sitting one, the regular upright one) for 10 minutes, on random at 6 resistance (so some of the time I was up at 11).  That was tough but it was a good workout overall.
After my workout, I went over to Wegmans and did alittle food shopping.  I need to keep the cost down to 50-60.  I did made it the bill came out to $54.00.  I bought all the fixings for my turkey soup (I need to use all or most of the turkey leftovers).  Plus mom gave the the turkey carcus for the soup (just the leg).  I knew I would be doing the soup on sunday after I go to lunch with my friend Jim.  I cut up all the celery and carrots in the evening.  I had chicken slovacki for dinner (I made it).  It sure was good.  The next morning, Sunday I peeled a few potatoes, diced them up (I could have diced them smaller) and put it in a ziploc baggie for later.  all I would have to do is throw everything in the crockpot (2 large chicken broth boxes), celery, carrot, mushrooms, alittle egg noodle (it actually broke a part while cooking - that was ok - it served as a thickening agent) and plenty of turkey with the leg carcus.  I cut enough meet off the leg that I had extra turkey for more sandwiches even after I put together the soup.  I put the soup on at 3 (thats when I got home from my luncheon with Jim) but I never finished the soup until 9:30pm.  I'll never do that again - the next time I make turkey soup I will make sure I am home at noon so I will be able to eat some for dinner at 6.  I wound up putting the soup in the fridge overnight, got up at 9:30 this morning to put the soup in 4 large containers (2 for freezing and 2 for using).  Had it for dinner tonight along with the other 1/2 of my sandwich from my lunch with Jim (roast beef club sandwich).   Yummm...it sure was good.  If I knew you guys were closer I'd invite you for a bowl.......Not bad for the 1st try!
Today, I didn't do too much in the morning (should have taken the time to work on the insurance agent online course but I didnt).  then about noon, I left for the BETC so I can get signed up for the Excel 2007 class that will go on for 8 days starting today 12/5 and finishing 12/15.  Free class, no tests, quizzes - just pure knowledge.  I'll get a certificate at the end and Joyce want me to test at the end of the course to see if I actually learned things.  Im really only there so I can figure out the functions on 2007.  I was so use to the drop down boxes in 2003.  Then I will also call Kim at AP professionals to retest excel 2007 for their agency.  Its only the 1st day so it was more of an introduction.  Learned a lot.  Now I know where the start and save buttons are.  How was I suppose to know the symbol button on the upper left side was where you open up a file/save?  Jeesh!!!  I go back tomorrow at 1-4pm for another fun day of excel.  There are 12 people in class. which is the max that the teacher allows.  I will sign up for powerpoint 2007 right afterwards, depending on if the agency has a temp job or if I find work.  that will be questionable.  I see Joyce tomorrow morning at 9am (why did I pick that time!!  Damn I have to get going early tomorrow....so much for lazing around in the morning).  We will go through some of the job postings I picked off on friday.  I missed the mark on a few of them but I am hopeful that the ones I will be working on with her will be successful.  We shall see.  Perhaps when I get done with her, I can run home and take a quick nap before I have to turn around and come back for class (I don't live too far away from BETC).  we shall see.  I might not have the time - depending on how long I have with her.  she might even test my typing speed (after I told her about the 65 wpm with AP professionals - she wants that same score in my file with her).  At least tomorrow is a non workout day.  I go back to the gym on Wednesday.
Todays workout consisted of 15 minute walk/run (2 minute walk, 2 minute run, 2 minute walk, 1 minutes walk, 2 minute walk and 1 minute walk).  whew!  That was exhausing. Again, my heart rate was extremely high but I felt alittle more stronger than the other 2 days.  It will get better.  Then I went on the bike again (regular bike) and did 15 minutes at random.  This time it was much harder with the resistance at 6 and the highest at 15 (I was peddling so slow..LOL!). I managed to do it.  Sweated much more than the other 2 days.  My goal is to eventually get into a spinning class or even a power aerobic class.  We shall see.  Perhaps in January/Feb I can do this if the weather isn't bad (I might be spending most of my exercising shoveling).  I eventually want to resign with the no boundaries program for 2012.  This time I will go back to the beginning and run with the regular runners (instead of the run walkers) - that way I will be ready to run in the summer again.  I've got all the routes planned out so the planning is done.  Anyways, At least I am getting back out there and exercising.  I am hopeful I won't have any lower back problems that the stress of my previous job gave me and that I will regain my strength while exercising.  The weight is creeping back up, which isn't good (gained 4+ lbs since I've been out of work - not good).  Gotta keep the eating to a minimum, eat breakfast in the AM, eat more salads for lunch and not eat after 7:30pm!!  I can do this, I've done it before.....Perhaps this time I can get my weight down to 175 before the summer hits.  That is my immediate goal weight.
I need to get off the computer because I have to be up at 7:45am (Yawn!!).  I am not use to getting up early anymore.  Not good.  I need to get up earlier.  I'll be scheduling meetings with Joyce at 9am this week and next week due to the excel 2007 class.  Plus its job club on friday - thats a 9am class there.  I'll be practicing this week.

I am thrilled that you are back at the gym, can\'t do anything but help, heh? Keep up the good work honey, Jim is having surgery tomorrow, that huge hernia he got from the triple A rupture, so he will have to stay in the hospital for a couple days for pain control, nothing else. I\'ll keep you posted and keep on keepin on!!! I sure love turkey soup!

Going to the gym definitely helps get the endorphins going and helps with the mood. I\'m glad that you\'re starting back into it and doing it slowly. Believe it or not, I used to be a personal trainer years ago and a lot of people liked to go like a bat out of hell from the get go, make themselves sore and miserable, and never wanted to workout again. You\'ll see plenty of them after the new year. I really don\'t understand the whole waiting to do something mentality. \"I\'ll do it after the new year, I\'ll do it next week, I\'ll do it next month . . .\" I believe in striking while the iron is hot.

I\'m glad you\'re taking the Excel class. You can tell potential employers that you continually do things to better yourself such as taking classes. I find Excel as the most difficult MS Office program to utilize and the one that employers use as their benchmark for computer literacy.

Anyways, enjoy your turkey soup and keep on keeping on.

The Excel 2007 course is a great idea, and I\'m sure you won\'t have any problems with it as you already know the 2003 version.

Well done on getting back to your exercise routine. It would be easy to sit back and make excuses, especially in the winter, but you have made your mind up to just get on with it. Well done you!

Jen: You are doing awesome! So happy to hear you\'re on top with going to the gym, and especially, going to the BETC. I must call up my healthplan\'s Wellness Coaching program and get into gear myself.

Keep up all of the wonderful, upbeat, positive work. You are doing all the right things. I know in my heart everything is going to go well! You are my hero! Special Friend! Pattye
