December 27, 2010 xmas update
Good morning everyone,
I just love the week after xmas and before new years. Its so quiet. My manager's last week is this week. I feel bad because she has to meet with Diane today at 11. For what? I have no idea. Then she has to go over to the suburban hospital (our northtown hospital site) for a meeting at 5! Terrible. I just plan on doing summaries for the rest of the week. I have to send out the spring RN intern schedule out to the nursing units at all the sites (5 sites) on Thursday. I just heard that 2 of our Children's hospital units are still merged together due to renovations (they said it should be ready mid semester). Thank god neither unit is double booked (1 school/1 day). They can do the same thing they did for the fall semester. I sent their schedules early so they have an idea what they would be up against. Both RN managers have been extremely accommodating with this situation. Its out of everyone's control right now. I do have to inform the schools as to whats going on here. They probably knew before I did. Thats on my adjenda today.
Last week went pretty good. Seemed like it dragged. Hated xmas being on a Saturday. I didn't mind it being on a Wed, Thur or Fri. I was off Friday, the 24th only. I really do not have much time due to being on Disability earlier in the month. I did have enough time for Friday and this coming friday the 31st. We had our department xmas luncheon on monday. It was really nice. We got sandwiches and chips (we ordered out of the hospital - if the hospital catered the event, we might as well have those horrible wraps). Bonnie brought her "white trash" (its white chocolate, pretzel, peanut and chex mix). It was good. She's a great baker.
Friday, I woke up at 9am but stayed in bed until 10am (watched TV in bed). Got up, had breakfast downstairs (I live in a duplex). Went on facebook for a few minutes. Chatted with my brother about mom's stocking stuffers. Jen called, told her that I would be picking her up early and go to dollar tree for the stocking stuffers. I picked her up at quarter to 2. Went to dollar tree, picked up nailpolish, pot holders, lid grippers, deodorant, stuff like that. We went over to Jen's mom's house and had a baileys and visited for a little while. Her parents are great people. They live in the apartment complex I lived in about a year and a 1/2 ago (near the buffalo bills stadium). As soon as her sister and Jen's 3 neices came - I left. I had my coat on when they arrived. That was about 4:10pm. I went to my cousin Diane's house for xmas eve. I got there about the same time everyone else did. Talk about good timing. Diane really did a great job with xmas eve. Everything perfect! Because I am polish, we had a traditional meatless dinner that consisted of fish, vegetable, potato, rigatoni and sauce (no meat) and tuna fish for those non fish eaters. Everything was good. Right before dinner, we had the platque (breaking of the bread). We go to each family member and wish them health, wealth and happiness for 2011. Sometimes you would have a special saying to eachother - like the kids I would say hope you do good with school. My cousin Debbie and Jim - hope you go on trips that I can take care of Henry and Willie again! Mom and Aunt Bunny (my godmother) - thank you for taking care of me and going to my breast appts. Stuff like that. You have to be creative. So if some of you have trouble - just think at the top of your head. We had a few members crying because it could be very personal. Mom was so upset because she was thinking of Grandma (someone must have said something to her to trigger). We then ate. After we ate, the girls and I did the dishes. Debbie was a good washer. After she finished, she gave me a high 5. Yuck! pruned hands. LOL!! Dessert consisted of cookies. Emma, Diane's 15 year old daughter made chocolate lush. It was good. Santa finally came at 8:15pm. He was a friend of my uncles from the fire hall (my uncle is a retired fire chief). He did a good job. Seemed to know everything about the kids. Matthew, Diane's youngest is a traveling hockey player (I heard he is pretty good) and Santa seemed to know about that. Matt is 8 and he still believes in Santa. Andrew who is 4, My cousin Johns little one seemed to love Santa coming. Last year, he was so scared of him. Its interesting what a year makes. We each got little things from santa. I got a yankee candle xmas spray from him. Everyone got picks taken with Santa. My uncles friend loves coming over to play santa for us. After that, we then opened presents. My godmother had me. Uncle Dick loved his flannel shirt and home depot gift card. I hope the shirt fits. If not, I put the gift receipt in the shirt and he can exchange it. Debbie's cats, henry and willie gave me "cat" socks and a wegmans food gift card. I was the 1st to get a present and eveyone was surprised that the cats gave me a present. They all laughed. Dads like "the cats give you a present?" LOL!! I accidently put mom's name on Aunt Bunny's present. But I was in close proximity to mom and aunt bunny and got that fixed. (they got bath and body works but different scents). We watched alittle bit of the xmas story then about 9:30pm we left. I went back to my apartment. The weather here was clear so I didn't go out to my parents overnight. I got home, put my pj's on, went upstairs - turned the TV on in the bedroom with xmas story and fell right to sleep about 10 minutes later. I was exausted. It was a long, long day. I got up at 8:15, took a shower got ready - just put jeans on and a tunic top on and went out to my parents at 8:35. Fixed mom's present and took my godmothers name and put her's. Grabbed my presents and commuted 45 minutes to my parents house. The weather was generally clear but the minute I got off the NYS thruway and headed toward Route 5, it started to sleet alittle bit. Just a little wet snow and rain. Very fine. Nothing to worry about. Got there about 9:35am. My brother beat me there. Dad made waffles and sausage. It was good. Then we went into our stockings. Got a lot of air freshener stuff. Even Tika got a stocking. He got a feather toy - fu fu pink. Cat food and stuff like that. After that, we moved the dining room table against the wall so we can get to the presents. I got my 8 qt stock pot that I asked for, mixing bowls. My parents gave me a vaccuum cleaner - electrolux. I needed one. Its a really nice one. I tested it out on their floors when we finished. Scout, loved xmas - he attacks the paper like mad. I had a small box that my brother put my 3rd Wegman's gift card (I practically got 1 shopping trip paid for by everyone). threw it on the floor and he was absolutely crazy. He ripped it to shredds. You should have been there. It was great. My brother then went to his friends house for xmas. Helped mom with a few things then about 2, I went upstairs and took a nap. I must have been tired but woke up at 3:30pm. If grandma was alive, I would have used that time to pick her up from the apartment. We were only expecting another couple, The mayor of angola and his wife came and spent xmas with us. It was only the 5 of us. Not a full house like it use to be. My aunt is still dealing with her chemo for colon cancer so it was quiet at their house too. Just an overall strange and quiet xmas, thats for sure. Mom made a pork loin, mashed potatoes and seafood lasagna. Everything was good. Took some home with me. Marge, the wife - made cheesecake. It was good. Marge was my sisters 6th grade teacher. I left at 8:30pm and got home at 9. kept everything in my car until the next morning.
My friend Debbie is driving me crazy. She keeps calling me to find out how her house is doing. Let me do my job, ok. I go over there everyother day. Sometimes she will call me BEFORE I GO OVER THERE. I guess she is alittle paranoid. I did go over there on the 24th. Apparently, she was trying to track me down while I was over there. She called my apartment 3 times, called my parents, called work. I will be glad when she comes home on the 4th. Whew.....
I will be off on the 31st. 4 day work week. Thursday will be Rosanna's last day luncheon. Should be nice. I gotta make a dessert. Not sure what. Figure it out this week. Paid Arlene for Rosanna's and Diane's gift and the $38.00 for Rosanna's dinner on 1/14.
Looks like New years eve will be a quiet evening. I guess I will be kissing the cat this year. LOL!!
Happy new year......
