Dealt with a problem today
It's usually my habit to freak out when things break down. I panic first, then ruminate about the problem until it either solves itself, or I break down and fix the thing (or have it fixed). Yesterday afternoon the furnace starting giving me grief. It does that every winter, for a day or two, usually when it is below -15 degrees F. Well, it is above 15 degrees during the day, and around 0 at night, so the oil isn't frozen, but it was still doing the same thing. You'd have to go in and hold the reset button to get the thing to start up, and then it wouldn't stay running. I have a wood stove, and between my brother and I stayed up all night (mostly) to keep the wood fire burning, and put a small electric space heater in the living room and I spent the night on the couch, dozing from time to time, but basically, didn't get alot of sleep. I assumed that the problem with the furnace was the same as last year, and that it would stop being difficult on it's own, but by 10:00 in the am it hadn't. And, there was a new problem, the overflow valve was running water. Well, I'd been meaning to call to get the annual servicing anyway, so I got out the number and called the guy, told him the problem and that I had no heat or hot water, and they sent someone around. Good thing that I did, too, because a couple of the pieces of my furnace system had gone bad. I have heat now. It would have been so me to put up with the problem for days before calling someone to come fix it, but I took care of it right away. Who knows, maybe Im improving.
