day two hundred eleven

it's been a while since i wrote, but i've been busy.  work, interning, cats.  my cat piglet had to have major dental surgery and is in kidney failure.  we've tried going the holistic route and were completely overcharged and misled, sadly.  $300 for a specialized nutrition consult with a veterinary nutritionist in texas who sent back *one* recipe made with a premixed supplement.  very disappointing.  and it leaves us in no better shape with piglet.  well, she is getting acupuncture now, so there's that.  but she's still eating canned food, still getting kibble at night, still eating grains... all these things that i didn't want to give to them.
the cats all seem fine, but i feel like they were doing better (except for piglet) on commercial raw food.  because of piglet's kidneys, we're not sure about feeding commercially prepared raw food because of the calcium to phosphorus ratio.  higher phosphorus is bad for kidney failure kitties.  i'm considering cooked homemade food, where i'd buy the meat and whatnot and cook it up for them.  i could cook a big batch once a week and freeze some, refrigerate some and feed them all week.  
we're feeding high quality canned food, but it's still processed meat stuffs and grains or veggies and crap that cats don't need.  and it's EXPENSIVE to feed all three like this.  it would probably be much more economical to feed them home cooked food.  plus i'd have complete control of what's in it - i could purchase local meats, or all organic, or use fresh organic pumpkin flesh for fiber.... and i'd buy a premixed supplement that would ensure the cats are getting the necessary nutrients.  that's the most dangerous thing about feeding cats raw or home cooked food - making sure they get everything they need.  
i knew all about that before paying for a $300 'nutrition consult'.  more like 'nutrition insult'.  ha.
on the RA front, no change.  except that humira seems to be causing ridiculous dreams.  very vivid.  very, very vivid and realistic and ridiculous.  every night for a week after my shot.  so i had a week of shitty sleep and now i'll have a week of good sleep and then i'll take humira again.  i've only had three doses, so i want to give it more time.  but it's not helped at all.  not a bit.  nothing.  how frustrating.
