Day 9 morning
Today is day 9. I don't have a lot of time this morning. I slept the hardest I have slept in ages last night. I was truly worn out from yesterday. A good worn out. My body is sore this morning and I have that tiredness from being outside doing things.
Continuing my thoughts on wanting to go to the liquor store. When I made that choice to turn toward the liquor store and away from home even though my mind was set on home, I still had a choice even after I made the turn. I think in my mind once I decide to go to the liquor store I feel the ending is predetermined. It's not. I can make the choice to turn around again. I have a choice as I turn into the liquor store parking lot....as I come up to the door...as I walk through it...I have a choice even after I buy the alcohol. I have choice on the drive home with the bottle. I have a choice once I bring it in the house. Lastly I have choices even as I take the first second or third drink. I say that I have choices but inside I have no confidence that after I took a drink I could dump it down the drain. Not having confidence in my ability to make that choice doesn't mean that choice isn't there to make. I guess that's what I want myself to know at some level. I always have choices. I can be proactive even after that first drink. I do not need to or have to be passive.
So headed in to week two, I was reading online that maybe one of my worst enemies coming up is going to be overconfidence. Keep that in mind this week. There's nothing wrong to sticking to the basic for a while longer. Don't push. Let all of this unfold naturally. This is for you and you alone.
I thought of a goal. I'd like to hike to the top of a peak near my home. I am in absolutely no shape to do this right now. It has quite a few switchbacks. It is quite challenging and I am even reluctant to put into writing that I would like to do this. Think on it. What would you need to do to prepare for this? What is the time frame you would need to prepare physically for it? Could you do by Fall before it snows on the peak or would it be a next Spring goal after the snow melts? Think about it. Something to keep in the back of your mind, an incentive perhaps.
Ok...day 9...here I come. Overconfidence is my enemy. Keep things tight and simple. No fanciness. Eat, drink water, exercise and breathe. I didn't have time for exercise this morning, but I can do it when I get home. I would like to maybe up my exercise today. See how you feel. Eat, water, exercise and breathe. I have my wide mouth bottle from my camping gear.
I will not go to the liquor store. If the thought hits me, I will recognize that many people struggle with this issue. I am not alone. I have choices even when I may not believe myself capable of making those choices. I do not drink. I am the tree, not the leaves.
