Day 82, morning

Today is day 82.  I met my regular exercise goal yesterday by attending class for my goal of blue belt.  I again really enjoyed the class.  I am far more sore today than I was after last class.  Again had to ice my hands when I got home.  That'll pass as my hits become more accurate.  I was more accurate this time but I was off slightly on the last break and I felt it all the way up my arm.  It was a black belt board though and I broke it, so happy.
I think the most fun thing for me is when you make minor adjustments to form based on the instruction and through those minor adjustments achieve success.  That to me is a lot of fun. That moving of the body, the slightest of changes in when you rotate your forearm or how you align your arm knuckle to wrist bone to elbow added to hip rotation or the timing of forward motion ending and the timing of the strike or flowing from one movement to the other.  That's fun.
Yesterday standing on one foot then the other, doing multiple slow motion, rotate foot 180, chamber, strike, re-chamber, fall to fighting stance exercises, I was struck by how absolutely amazing the body is.  My balance was excellent.  If I stay on track, September 2nd will be three months of no drinking.  3 months ago I couldn't have done any of this.  My muscles weren't even firing right.  My balance was the worst it's been since I was probably a baby.  Granted I think the muscles of the body have their own memory of motion/movement.  They have done that exercise many times in the past and so to pick it back up I believe is easier then if I had never done it, but to go from a couple months ago to here, it's really astonishing.
I remember back to when I was starting to drink heavily.  I had a fairly set schedule. Everyday I got up before work and ran.  When I began to drink heavily, I still for a a number of months got up and ran.  My body still went out and ran a 6 or 10 or 13 miler for me.  I still can't figure out how I was able to do that for so long.  Eventually drinking won out...I couldn't do both.  My physicality, I gave up to drinking, and eventually my whole self, I gave up  to drinking.
Today is day 82.  I am committed to making a life change.  I can say that I am beginning to see the benefits of that commitment.  I do not drink.  I am the tree, not the leaves.  I am the mountain.  It is day 82 and I am solid.

I can relate drinking took away my running scholarship to college.

I\'m sorry you know what that feels like. To know in yourself athleticism, the beauty of it, the feeling of the body doing its thing and then to go about attempting to destroy it...... It\'s heartbreaking.
