Day 56, morning
Today is day 56. Yesterday for work I parked along the river by the overpass. Taking that longer walk to and from work was nice. I think in the past, I was in a rush to get to my truck after work, get myself in my truck and to drive myself immediately home on the route I'd already laid out in my head. All of this to ensure I had little time to think, to change direction, to get anywhere near a liquor store. Once home all I had to do was keep myself there. At this point, that isn't necessary, not meaning that I shouldn't be aware of my thoughts and taking precautions when needed.....
After work when I got to my truck, the court under the overpass was open. I met my goal of exercise by shooting free throws and just shooting for fun. I am sore again today. All those little muscles used in chasing down the ball or suddenly moving to grab it protesting last night and this morning.
Today and tomorrow no exercise necessary...if it happens, it happens. This morning I went to the forest with the dogs and went to the lake. After, I stopped at the store for some dinner items.
I think rediscovering food is probably right now one of the things I'm enjoying most. Swiss chard that volunteered in the garden. The beef steak tomatoes coming ripe that I planted the first week or two of my sobriety. The brandywine's getting closer, also a result of that first couple weeks of sobriety when I was trying to keep busy between throwing up and the sweats. To now see these living things coming to fruition, to a new way of being out of that time, a transformation...it's kinda cool. My sobriety seen through a ripened tomato. It's something I can hold in my hand, concrete and beautiful.
At the store, I bought Moroccan spiced lamb cranberry sausages. There's a lot of lamb here and a lot of cranberries. I have never seen the two combined. I'm curious and taking joy in trying these things. To eat or not eat based on how sober I needed to be or how drunk and how fast I wanted to get drunk was my old way of eating. It's different now.
"Times, they are a changin'."
Today is day 56. I am committed to making a life change. I do not drink. I am the tree, not the leaves. I am the mountain. Today is day 56 and I am solid.
