Day 4 morning
Slept well last night. Feel pretty good this morning. My muscles on waking were tight. It felt like an all over tight. Ate breakfast.
This morning I biked about 25 minutes on my stationary bike. I listened to my tonglen tape while I biked and then did some stretching while I listened. Muscles are still tight, but there is within me a feeling of relaxation even if my body itself is tense and trying to adjust to no alcohol.
Today is my transfer. No commute but a whole new staff to meet. I spent a day there last week, getting to know people, looking for their interests and ideas. There will be more of that this week. Should be very little stress involved. I like that kind of thing.
I think there will be a temptation to skip lunch and breaks. I need to keep those not just right now but overall, for the long run. I think also where there was no pressure for me to skip or work late...here there will be pressure and I'll need to find my way through that. Today though slow and steady and open will win the race. Be open and see what happens...keep preconceived ideas to a minimum. It's gonna be fun.
This morning I was thinking about a class I took...hmmm...must be 25 years ago or more. It was about wellness...a required course. It was at a time they'd dropped a physical activity as a requirement and added life wellness...how to care for oneself. Each class focused on a different technique and in one class we tried guided relaxation. I remember there were ocean sounds...the waves, the seagulls, a woman's voice guiding you through the relaxation. I really enjoyed it at the time. I thought maybe today I could stop by the library and check out one or two. I might like that. I will stop after work.
So today goals: water, eat meals plus snacks in between, keep calm and open <----that's really important today, slow, measured, stop by the library after work. I'm kind of excited to see what I can find.
Most important goal that must be met: Do not stop at the liquor store on the way home. Different route today than the one I've been doing the last three days. Go home along the waterfront and take the highway straight home. This goal being met is important to me. I want to make a life change. I can make a life change. I don't drink. Say yes to new things and to the old things you may have forgotten. How long since you kayaked?
