Day 3: 5 x 400 at my goal mile pace
Quick update, because it is time for bed! I did this workout on the treadmill today because I didn't get finished with work until around 6:30pm, and by that time it was already dark :(
I felt really good about the workout! I started at my goal pace - 7.1mph which is roughly an 8:30 min mile - and ran the first .25 mile (400m) interval. Then walked afor about .15 miles and then did the second .25 mile interval at 7.2mph. Then with each interval I went up .1mph, ending at 7.5mph for my 5th one, which is actually an 8 minute mile pace!
So I pushed it today, and I'm hoping this means my body is in good shape to tackle this goal. Doing a 400m interval is a lot different from running an entire 5K at that pace, and I did feel tired, so there's still work to do. But I'm up for it :)
Alright, bedtime. I'm beat!

Way to go Jessica! I always found treadmill intervals harder than doing them outside. You\'re running fast without creating any wind so your body\'s ability to cool itself is hampered. That\'s a tough workout. Warmup and cool down become very important after that kind of workout. Great job!
Yay Jessica! Great workout, I love (and hate at the same time :P) interval training. Last night I worked intervals into my run, and it felt great. And yes you are right so about it wearing you out! :) It is so interesting you mention how FAST it feels because I notice that too. My best 5k time was 20:55 (6:30something pace) but when I run at a 9mph on the treadmill I want to die after one lap. And then I wonder- did I get slower, or is it just different running outside?? :/
Your training is great! I agree with Todd, warm up/ cool downs are very important, plus lots of stretching too. :) Keep on rocking it! Yay you!
hope you sleep tight and sweet dreams......
great project, good luck!
Congrats. The treadmill may be boring, but at least it helps you keep track of how fast you are going and how far. Way to go.
thank you everyone :)
@smilelisa o m g, 6:30 pace? amazing!!!
@ultratodd i followed your advice of the first interval being the slowest and working up the speed :)
@inmemoryofhattie thank you :) i appreciate your encouragement.
@bikercj yes, that\'s what i told myself, even though the real reason is i was too lazy to find a good route in the dark :) thank you for the support!
