Day 2 Doldrums

Being a first-time IVF-er, I can tell you for certain now that Day 2 post-retrieval is LAME! No information for a WHOLE DAY?! Really?! That is something that'll test your patience, for sure. Sometimes, with the amount of money we spend on this, I feel like we should get a little embryology lab security cam feed -- like a nanny cam, where we can watch our little cells while they're in "daycare." Ha! ;)

I'm actually part of a research (Merge) study where they're doing a trial on a new computer software that takes time-lapse video of the embryos which helps in grading them. This, along with the assessment of the embryologists, will help them determine which are the most viable candidates. (Especially since the lab folks are really just "eyeballing it" and it becomes a beauty contest, more or less.). Apparently, the time-lapse images helps determine rate of cellular division and characterizes it somehow, which helps in grading. Pretty cool, huh? I sure would love to get my hands on that video! I'd watch it like it was the next big hit reality show! ;)

So, today... More meditating and more news to come by 9:00am tomorrow (Saturday), when I'll get a new status update and find out if we've got a Day 3 or Day 5 transfer. Like I said before, as long as we get ONE great quality embryo to transfer, I'll be happy. My body feels ready for this!

And P.S.: those progesterone injections aren't nearly as bad as I was anticipating! My husband was WAY more panicked than I was, as he was so afraid to hurt me. He kept whimpering as he watched the instructional video one last time. But he was a CHAMP! I barely felt a thing. Very minimal bruising today. Though I may be singing a different tune after doing this for a few weeks in a row! ;)

Urgh! I hated that too! They didn\'t even have a set time to call and tell me news either. I basically got my daily report of blood work and when I asked how they were it was a quick, \"all 5 are still kicking\". I was on pins and needles! (Ha! Pun intended)

Your nanny cam idea sounds amazing and I wonder if that will be the future of IVF! I see how many changes have happened over the years and I just can\'t wait to see how advanced IVF gets in the years to come. You should patent that idea :) Sounds like your study is amazing too! How cool if they gave you a special report because of it. Wouldn\'t hurt to ask.

PIO isn\'t too bad. I was super ready to be done with them those last few days, but for the most part they are easy. I found my sweet spots and it only hurt if I strayed away from them. So happy to hear the hubby is being a good nurse!

Can\'t wait to hear your report tomorrow :)

Waiting for the fert reports is agonizing! I made the mistake my first retrieval of thinking they called you the day off, so I was super stressed when I hadn\'t heard anything by EOD. Thank goodness I\'d misunderstood their timetable! I\'ll be stalking you tomorrow to hear about your transfer date :)

I welcome any and all IF \"stalkers,\" hineschica! :)
It moves me to tears that you girls are so invested and caring and liberal with your sage words of advice... all for little old me. It\'s humbling and, no matter how this turns out, I don\'t know how I\'ll ever be able to thank you for what you\'ve done (and are continuing to do for all the ladies on this forum). It\'s really an incredible and selfless gesture. :\'-)
