Day 10: My first Tempo!
My first tempo today was harrrrddddd! Thanks for all the comments - SmileLisa I thought of you while running that fast leg. I saw two guys in front of me, and I tried my very best to beat them! haha. But I couldn't, so I focused on just making sure they kept the same distance ahead of me and didn't gain any.
Today I did 10 minutes of "warmup," 10 minutes of fast running, then 13 minutes of a cooldown/slow running pace that included some walking. It was pretty tough, maybe because I went too fast during my first 10 minutes. I did a 9 minute pace for that first leg, and I was supposed to only do a 10 minute pace :P. The second leg was an 8:20 pace, and I kept it up the whole way! I was so happy about that, but it was so difficult because, in my opinion, I should have eased up on the first leg. I'm really not used to pushing my speed like that, as I usually like to relax when running distance. This time I definitely felt that "I gotta keep this up even if I don't wanna..."
The last leg was only .9 miles but I took 13 minutes to run/walk it. Total distance 3.2 and total time was 33:27.
I'm glad I could do the 8:20 for one mile at least. Now to maintain that pace for two more miles... I also kept telling myself: "I'm only on week 2.. I'm only on week 2"

YAY JESSICA!! :) That is so exciting! I love hearing about your runs, and this one sounded like a killer! I am so glad that you used those guys as motivation to push harder than you would have otherwise to maintain the gap. Yay! :)
With time you will find your groove where you are running at a comfortable-ish tempo that you can speed up from or go back to. It took a while for me to find that pace, but now I know it\'s my starting point for my runs (at least my treamill runs).
You are doing so well with your training and I am super excited for you!! :)
thank you smileLisa!!!! :)
way to kick but Jessica but I like that Im not the only one that thinks of lisa during a run I did that during my 5k training thanks to her I ran my first ten minute mile and Il ne doing it again during my half marathin training Youre doing awesome
still in your rooting section! yea! gogogogo!
Way to go Jessica!
Personally, I don\'t time my warmups or cooldowns. I do them by feel and not by time.
Great workout! Keep it up.
