Day 10 morning
Today is the start of day 10. A nice round number. Feeling less foggy in the morning, but pretty tired throughout the day. The tired is getting to me a little. It could be tiredness from the coast, and exercise and maybe doing more while still being vitamin deficient, could be working on my weekend instead of resting. I have to remember I am only ten days in. Should I be working in my off time at this point? Working on my weekend made it so the rest of my week was much easier...took away a lot stress that I would have had. I feel like there I made a good choice, but maybe work and the coast was pushing it. I don't know.
I need to really look at my eating and hone it down to as nutrient rich as I possibly can. I love swiss chard. I have it in the garden right now, and it's ready to be picked. I had never looked up its nutrition until now and it's really very good. Have some for dinner tonight.
I think about the goal of hiking the peak near my home and there's a part of me that wants to pull back from it as a goal. I could barely make the climb from the beach the other day. I was completely winded at the top. I ride my stationary bike and my muscles get tired and the highest level I go to is level three for maybe one minute then down to one then two then back to one. Another part of me thinks why not aim for that and even if I don't make it, I will be getting in shape. I will at least be aiming for something. Maybe I'll hit, maybe I won't...doesn't matter because I'm moving toward something positive. My goal is not to get to the liquor store before it closes....my goal is not to take a drink as soon as I hit the gravel road to my house or as soon as I walk in the door and to be drunk as soon as possible. This goal whether hit or not is positive and forward moving, confidence building and life changing. What would it take to meet this goal? How can I move myself toward meeting this goal? Start where you are....I can't remember what sports company that was a slogan for...ah, Starter, that was it. It's good advice.
Exercised and stretched yesterday...drank water while at work. I didn't eat my second snack at break, and my dinner was not the best of dinners. I'm even embarrassed to say what it was...Cheetos and an English muffin, but with water. I had a good thing going with my dinners. The heat might be slowing me down a bit here, but it's really important for me to eat right at this time. I have everything to cook something when I get home. I'm just not doing it.
So basics again: eat, water, exercise, breathe. Again I'd like to throw in some more exercise when I feel ready. Yesterday I kept my same routine. Will see what today brings.
Again please be alert for the liquor store feelings. I guess I am fortunate I am not tempted by beer and wine or bars. I have only this one thing to worry about. Although don't rule out bars, beer and wine...the moment you ignore them is when they'll probably become a problem. Put most of your effort into not going to the liquor store. Many people struggle with this....they have struggled with it in the past, in the present and many more will struggle with it in the future. I am not alone. Tonight I want to go to the store after work. Go to that store and then go directly home. This is day 10. I do not drink. I am the tree, not the leaves. I am committed to my goal. I want and need to make this life change. I have choices even after I take that first drink. At every junction, even in the middle of a junction, I have a choice.

I just added your \"I\'m am the tree, not the leaves\" to my affirmation sheet that I got at my therapy group tonight. I\'ll share it with the others tomorrow. You are doing one thing that I need to get on top of....exercise. I just keep thinking that it is taking my every fiber to stay sober that if I was trying to stay sober and diet/exercise I\'ll go nuts....so I\'m thinking maybe after a few more days of sobriety I will then think about the exercise portion. I can already tell I\'m losing a little weight from abstaining. Thanks for the inspiration!
And thank you to you, too. You\'re keeping me inspired, too. The exercise is difficult definitely. I feel really out of shape, but I just keep telling myself this is where I am and try not to think of the shape I was in in the past or anything else. Yeah, do it when you feel ready. Congratulations on one week!
Hey. Forgot to say that I\'m glad you like that quote. I can\'t remember where I read it. I think Thich Nhat Hahn. I like the image. :) When my feeling feel like they are going every direction, I think of the tree and how it is not the leaves...the solidness, the centeredness. The leaves do not sway the tree.
