DAWN DOLLS BY Topper Toys//found my glasses in the training room at work! lol//marina
"First set of Dawn dolls was released by Topper Toys in 1970 and included Dawn, Angie, Glori, and Dale.
The second set of Dawn dolls added Jessica, Longlocks, Gary, Ron, and Van to the bunch.
This second set also introduced the "Head to Toe", "Dancing", and "Flower Fantasy" themes. The first set of dolls was also released under these themes. The last wave of dolls came out under the "Model Agency" and "Majorette" themes. The “Model Agency” theme introduced new dolls, Dinah, Denise, Melanie, Daphne, and Maureen. The "Majorette" theme brought in Connie, April, and Kip.[5]The Dawn dolls provided a good amount of competition for the more expensive Mattel Barbie doll. Due to the lower price of Dawn dolls, it was easy for consumers to amass a relatively large portion of the collection for little money.
However, Topper Toys went bankrupt in 1973 and Dawn dolls were discontinued. Although the dolls achieved a huge amount of initial success, it was difficult to maintain. The small size of the doll made it hard for the manufacturers to get enough detailing onto the clothing to substantially innovate the styles.
After Topper shut down in the spring of 1973, dolls were packaged to be sold from the scraps of the leftover inventory. Thus, a doll might be packaged in outfits and/or boxes made for another doll character. For example, a Dale doll might come in Angie's "Model Agency" outfit in a box printed with Longlocks' name. Dolls were also manufactured from leftover parts, so a buyer might get Dawn with Jessica's hair.
Checkerboard Toys then took over the Dawn doll market and began making reproductions of Dawn, Glori, Angie, and Dale as a 30th anniversary commemoration to the first Topper Dawn dolls. Checkerboard also released four new dolls, Shannon, Macy, Maura, and Denise. However, the new dolls never really caught on and Checkerboard made its last Dawn dolls in 2003. In 2004, Toy O Rama rereleased a line of Dawn dolls, but met with little success and shortly discontinued manufacturing."
These dolls were sooooo cool. they had all the latest fashions because their theme was that they were beauty queens and models. yay! Topper must have been into something bad to go bankrupt when the dolls out-sold barbies. They were like the popularity of the Bratz Dolls in the 90's, but 25 years earlier, in the 70's. They looked like mini barbies, but cooler and a little more distinct, instead of each doll being identical.
headed to the marina. had a totally boring day. can't take much more of this boredom stuff. tried to cut down the aspirin because its affecting my hearing (od on aspirin and the side effect is ear trouble) and the pressure on my brain came back. grrrr. will try 1/2 aspirin next. oh well, lucky to be alive.
started another nazi book called "behind the bedroom wall" its good. they are revealing so much about nazis in the last ten years - amazing how much worse that was than i'd ever guessed. looked up the house on a side road across from timeshare and it did sell super cheap. have to let k know, he missed one. i think that was the one to get. seriously. never know though...life is full of surprises.
the big whir at the moment is not attending a wedding two years ago, even with a ticket sent. if bda was around, i'd think it was her or her mother stealing mail and stealing the ticket, or karenb again. gash, always repeats and always either the same people or people with the same mental problems. grrrr. its more complicated than that though. steven is not invited, like a blanket, no invite. have actually decided they are right about that. wow. come a long way. i should have gone without steven. too late now though.
found my glasses in the training room at work, the new guy says to me, yeah, i saw them there LAST WEEK and meant to tell you, (oh please not another dork! i said why didn't you. he probably just forgot, but i said to him when i lost them, if he sees them leave a message on my desk or voicemail because just telling me won't do it, i'll forget. whatever. even more chaotic with stuff like that at home, so i won't even touch it, its like either laugh or cry).
took care of things at the office. they screwed up payroll because the fax got jammed and screwed up training pay for one of the new guys, who has been getting into it with them (arguing with our office people). actually this is typical of our division's main office - screwing things up.

dawn had long straight, dark blonde hair. glori had shorter wavier red hair. angie had long wavy BROWN hair and dale was afro-american with an afro.
LOVED these dolls. but since they were small, they got stolen. generally from the weird 5 feet 10 girl-woman up the road who was caught breaking into our house and garage a zillion times.
later still i had the entire set (even all the new ones and new sets) sent to my grandmother\'s in nyc figuring i\'ll keep them there, safe and sound. had to do that with many things because my stepfather was big on taking things and bringing them to his sisters for safekeeping. (definitely something going on there). my grandmother opened the box without asking and then gave the dolls to my cousins when they visited because she had nothing FOR them. its like, its not that you gave them to them (and they don\'t make them anymore, i collect dolls sometimes. but they weren\'t your\'s to give away nor to touch). she pulled something similar with her son\'s wedding practice dinner, she left after the soup to go feed the seals in central park. for decades that went on and on. its not that you FED THE SEALS, its WHEN you went to feed the seals. ITS NOT that you gave the kids the dolls, its that they weren\'t YOUR\'S to give away. you didn\'t ask. it wasn\'t your mail nor your package. her entire life is filled with things like this. her sense of boundaries, doesn\'t quite exist. she is a gambler addict so i wonder if that is part of it.
