Dave's Service
The day did come and go. Friends, family and a few coworkers did show up. Some just paid their respects, others did stay for the service and some food afterwards. There were tears shed , memories shared, but in the end we all did realize his struggles were finally over (I just wish mine were) The pastor did a beautiful service. He also plays the guitar and sings. We went from the organist doing" the old rugged cross" and "in the garden" (two of his favorites as his Mom always sang them around the house) to what the pastor said was his version of a rock concert. Found two verses that did lead up to clues of the songs... one of his favorite groups was Kansas... and Skynrd. So he played and sang "Dust in the Wind" and part of "Free Bird" THIS is when several of us were a blustery mess as we knew how he loved these songs and their messages. Was a very nice tribute. Also the radio station that he listened and called faithfully also had a special show and tribute to him this morning as well as a mention of the service tonight.
It really was a good day overall. I am blessed to have family and friends around who care.I wanted to let you know I survived. Tomorrow I begin to start sorting and tossing.
Thank you for all the love and prayers and hugs.

The recovery. begins now Kim. RIP but take your life back.
Kim you are such a good and loving person and I almost teared up too with the songs the pastor picked to play.....it is over for now....but the bills will roll in on all of this and I surely hope your ok with this....I am sorry you lost your husband of course and just know that there are men who are attracted to you still even as a widow....the gal I date is a widow who also stayed with her husband after he had a stroke I think he lived 17yrs afterwards in an aphasic state where he could not talk.....and was in nursing home care.....10 of those years he had dialysis as his kidneys shut down....she is a super woman in my humble opinion as I think you too are.....hugs bill
Thanks for sharing. Hugs.
Sounds like it was a beautiful service for him and you were surrounded by family and friends to support you.
Now take things one day at a time. You don’t have to do it all quickly, take your time and more importantly take the time to care for yourself.
I’m just a message away if you need to vent, chat, whatever.
Hugs, Kim
My mom was Catholic and wanted a Catholic mass for her service. Not my thing but knowing that was important to her, we made it happen. I had no idea how honoring her wishes with a full mass would have also comforted me and my siblings. It was beautiful and touching and truly resonated with me even though I left the church decades ago. My point is finding ways to honor our people by focusing on
what meant the most to them is not only doing right by them but it also brings us even closer to them in some ways. It’s fully acknowledging who they were without our own hang ups getting in the way. I’m just glad for you that you were able make room for things that were important or meaning to him, because that is truly an act of love.
