Date Night

Admittedly, some of our "hot dates" aren't all that hot.  Sometimes we go donate blood as part of our date, although we'll usually go out to eat or do some fun shopping or something while we're there, but it's sort of nice when all that karma (in this case, blood donor points) build up and we can actually go on a hot date when we wouldn't otherwise be able to afford to.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I've been spoiled the last couple of years and we've had some Ahhh maaaay zing dates.  Remember the anniversary date with the couples massage and mud bath?  Mmnyeah.  Plus our overnight excursions complete with jacuzzi tub.  We've also done some really fun/creative stuff like going to the park and drawing and sexy picnics.  But sometimes time/money/energy/creativity wear thin.
So... yeah... we're pretty broke.  End of the month, extra expenses, still recovering from the funds we spent out of our own pocket looking for our daughter when she went missing.  Plus the trips to the counselors, plus... well, yeah.  A few days ago, H called and asked if I wanted to go on a date on Friday.  I was SO excited/happy.  He hasn't ASKED me on a date in a long time, and I really, really love it when he does.  It feels so "official" and sweet.  Kinda like when he asks if he can kiss me.  Just sorta melts me all gooey inside.
But here's the thing... Friday (yesterday) we were supposed to go to an awards dinner.  I started to say so when he said, "Just kidding, I just needed to ask you something."  It was a question about our daughter's medication.  I was pretty disappointed and I couldn't quite get it out of my head that we weren't going on a date, after all.
As it turns out, the awards dinner was postponed (not my fault!!) so we had the evening free.  I asked him if he wanted to go on a date and he (broke as we are) was understandably crushed/worried.  It made me sad and I was sort of afraid that we wouldn't end up doing anything.  Honestly, when he came to me and said, "How about I use my blood donor points for free movie tickets?" I blanched.  I don't usually like movies for a date night, especially if there aren't any movies I have my heart set on seeing.  I noticed the defeat on his face when I said as much and quickly backpedaled.  I offered to use my Kmart reward points to get us candy and drinks to sneak into the theater and honestly?  We had a blast.  It was so nice to just be together.
Old me would have been grumpy and fought going.  Old me would have been defeated before I ever gave him a chance.  Old me wouldn't have even suggested going on a date, but would have just pouted and been disappointed.  It's an improvement.  For sure.
Old him wouldn't have made an effort to come up with a date idea.  Old him would have been felt defeated before trying.  Old him would have hidden away from me and made excuses to hide away from my pouting/grumpiness.
It still makes me sad that Skankalotta whore killed our old versions, but versions 2.0 are definitely kicking ass and New Us functions a lot better and is a lot happier.
