Dancing
I have been dealing with a lot of depressing thoughts lately. Most relate to time slipping away. A recent high school reunion, brought to mind the deaths in our class of a little more than 600. Some war related, some accidents and some sicknesses have taken a large share of the class. There was a memorium to the dead with names and death dates for the missing. There was a call to all who had served in the military to stand and be recognized. All together pretty depressing.
After more than a month of this wallowing, I remembered a gal who hit the dance floor all by herself the moment the DJ began the music. She danced almost every dance whether anyone was dancing with her or not. A friend of mine and I joined her when I could breathe and later in the evening I said something to the gal who danced alone. She said, "I'll dance as long as I can here music, maybe longer."
Here's what I know about her. Her high school sweetheart married her when they found she was with child. They were together a year or two and he was drafted for the war in Viet Nam. He died there and she went to cosmotology school and worked to support their child. She later decided she was too young to live alone and remarried. Unfortunately, her new husband was not a dancer as her first husband had been. She decided life was way to short and unpredictable to sit and watch people living fully and began to dance alone. She said she liked when people joined her on the dance floor and they often did, but it did not matter, she would dance anyway.
I don't run into many people nowadays that inspire me but she did. She will stay in my minds eye out there on the floor dancing to the first song of the night at a reunion that would have been hers and her first husbands. I think I will close this now and turn on some music. There are tears in my eyes but I still feel like dancing.

Wonderful journal Soapy!! I have met a 97 year old in here that was a dancer. You can see in her beautiful blue eyes how much joy it gave her. She still paints, play cards and plays the piano. She is an inspiration too.
Love you dear friend, Nancy
