Daily Timeline

I had RNY (Regular Surgery 6 inch incision) done on 11-6-2013,surgery went well, no problems. I awoke in my room but was so out of it I couldn't tell you a thing about that day. 11-7-2013, a lot more coherent today, still doped up on morphine, I keep telling the nurse I don't need it and she keeps telling me to press the button...lol Glad I listened to her. I got out of bed today and into a chair, pain is not so bad of course morphine helps with that but, I was given the ability to press the morphine button every six mins if I want, I only hit it around every 4 hours. I told the nurse I wanted to get up and walk so off we goooooo!!!! I did one complete lap around the nurses station. The nurse said to me we could take the short cut and cut the walk in half??? I'm like no, I want to do the whole thing. Well, that wasn't really a good idea that's when I found out that my pulsox dropped from 92 to 79 and I needed oxygen. Doctor came in and talked to me about my surgery, told me I had galstones and he removed the Gall Bladder. He also said I made him work, he was telling me that all the fat in my belly was wrapped around my stomach which made things difficult for him. He was going to take my appendix out while he was in there but said that all the fat made it too difficult to do and would have taken awhile so he left it alone. My liver was fine. After telling me all that he told me I will be going home tomorrow. 11-8-2013 Well therpy comes in and tells me we need to go for a walk so they can sign me off to go home...I'm like, I am not up to it but we did the half walk around the nurses station anyway, again pulsox dropped to 79. She tells me I "May" need to have oxygen go home with me unless I can work up walking and get my breathing under control..Damn, I weigh 430 pounds, my back has it's issues and you want me to do better in a few hours? I'm doing my best. 1 PM I am released from the hosp and sent home, no oxygen, just lovanox and liquid loritab and a good luck. The rest of the day was spent at home with my wife and grandaughter (17) and that's when the gas pain hits, and I start feeling like crap. Wake up in the middle of the night dry heaving, everything taste like crap, all I want is water. 11-9-2013 Today is no different than yesterday except I dry heaved a few times today. I tried some cream of wheat, that was horrible all I want is water and the pain (gas pain) is killing me. I am trying to walk a little at a time, I am getting there. I finally had a bowel movement and it was all blood but boy it felt good, the gas is starting to come out and my belly is starting to feel just a little bit better. Still though, all I want is water. 11-10-2013 The dry heaving has stopped, I am tolerating bouillon cubes so I am eating now. This high protein milk the doctor has be make taste like crap (half gallon skim milk and 1 cup no fat powdered milk) I use it to make my cream soups, oatmeal, cream of wheat, protein shake I can't stand the taste of it so I will have to do something else. What I eat or drink stays in, the bleeding from my back side has stopped, the gas pain is about all gone and all the seems to be left is the soreness from surgery. I am doing much, much better today. I am eating, drinking and moving around a little. 11-11-2013 Well, finally wake up, use the bathroom and everything is ok, I am feeling so much better today. Today is my anniversary and my poor wife has to tend to me, help me to the bathroom, fixes my meals, she just waits on me hand and foot. I don't know why? but she loves me and I do love her so. She shouldn't have to do this on this day, I must and I will make it up to her. Today has been a much better day. 11-12-2013 Well, what do ya know, I am feeling good, not great yet but good. Just the soreness of the surgery is all now, no gas pains at all, nothing is making me feel sick or wanting to gag. I am going to be all right, that's the best news I have heard yet.
