Dad's and my communication

Today I was talking to everyone and I was addressing my dad.  I don't know why I address my dad maybe I think he is the most intelligent on the table and therefore I address him, maybe I still find him important and want his approval so I direct my speech to him.  Anyhow I wouldn't get his attention.  I would talk and talk but to no attention.  It was tough.  The more I talked and the more I made humorous comments the more attention I got from him.  It is tough.  I guess my dad doesn't understand me and he doesn't see me eye to eye.  I understand how difficult it is as my cousin who is 13 is like me.  I guess we are anxious and not that easy to talk to.  No that is incorrect but we are very sensitive and if we get a bad comment we become silent and withdrawn and it is difficult to engage us in speech if we get withdrawn.  My dad always opposed me and then wanted to talk to me.  This didn't always work.  He would react to my anxiety with a scolding comment and I would hence get more anxious and not able to talk to him.  I understand my dad's difficulty with me.  For that I will add the 5% communication although it hurts to feel that I could not reach my dad (sometimes I have but most of the time it was a struggle).
For instance yesterday, I was at my cousin's house and he was being a little silly, I guess he was anxious and a little depressive, so I got a little frustrated from trying to understand him and I was remembering myself (which was not the greatest thing to do) so I scolded him.  I didn't notice the effect so much until I noticed that he withdrew and left to play the piano.  I was immediately sorry to him for saying the bad thing I did it was my mistake and we then had a very nice time.  I told his mom that he is a little anxious and she said that she noticed that and she will put him in some assertivness training.  I wish she does as he is really brilliant.
