Cut the Umbilical Cord

Today I drove over to the kennels and picked my precious dogs up after leaving them for three nights.  It was my elderly Cavalier that I was most worried about but as I approached I could see he was fine. He was sitting in a little kennel amongst the rugs I had taken over, watching what was going on. It was obvious that they had been well cared for and that despite high humidity and amazing thunder storms they had been fine.  Perhaps more importantly they leaped into the car and as soon as they got home slid straight back into the routine they know so well.   This is a huge relief for me. I have done it! I have cut the umbilical cord and will now be able to go away whenever I want to.  For the moment I have no destination in mind. This does not matter. Knowing my beloved companions really are safe will give me the peace of mind to accept invitations and go to places where it is not appropriate to take them.
