Custom Hunting Knives

With me being a maker, I am able to explain to a prospective buyer why a specific knife is sometimes two or three times more expensive than another. I've been making custom knives since '79 and have been a member of the Knifemakers' Guild since '95. Also, your custom knives are fully insured while at my home where they are stored in a large gun safe, and my home is fully wired with a professionally installed and monitored alarm system. All custom knives are commercially insured while in transit to a knife show or when shipped to a buyer. The simple and elegant monobloc knife is made from one piece of high-quality steel - forged at 1000°C. The blade combines exceptional edge retention and unparalleled corrosion resistance.
The Wa-kamisori, Japanese straight razor, is a perfect example of the Japanese aesthetic. This razor was produced in the workshop of bladesmith Shigeyoshi Iwasaki (b. 1933), in cooperation with his apprentice Ryoichi Mizuochi. Shigeyoshi-san is the son of renowned metallurgist and sword researcher, Hiroshi Iwasaki, who is well respected as a leading authority on traditional forging techniques. Shigeyoshi Iwasaki is considered by many to be the greatest straight razor maker of all time.

This section contains some one of a kind model of knives. Rare to find, these knives are available in both fixed and folding blades. Knives have been crucial to the survival of many cultures throughout history and around the world and were customized to fill a specific need. Today, custom knives are ideal for the knife enthusiast who wants to invest in a high-quality piece of functional art. After using a custom knife and knowing how much time and energy its maker put into the design and production of it, it can be hard to return to using mass-produced knives.
I have met few that use a knife like I do and fiddleback is my choice. And I have tried nearly all big name knife companies. As well as collector quality Damascus pieces, Highlands Forge makes a variety of field tested hunting, skinning, camp & Bowie knives in mono steels at very affordable prices.

They claim they source their materials from the States as well, and based on what they’re using, I’m inclined to believe them. This company is pretty well known as the name behind the pliers-based multitool. They’re so established in that area that even when another company like Gerber makes a multi-tool with pliers, our instinct is to call it a Leatherman. Through all their brands, the company specializes in making tough tactical blades, usually with military and law enforcement in mind. Their stuff is mostly done through CNC machines in their Arizona factory.
Benoni’s knives have been featured twice in recent issues of Blade Magazine, the premiere bladesmithing industry publication in America and in local newspaper articles in the Northeast Arkansas region. Although different in many obvious ways from the Ka-Bar, what they both have in common is quality, durability, and superb craftsmanship. The attention to even the smallest of details is evident from the point down to the pummel. In my hand the knife was well balanced with a comfortable and stable grip, giving me a confidence with this knife that it wouldn’t fatigue my hand by the end of the day. I have submitted a custom design and they've made it exactly as per my specifications.

They seem to be a great source for high-end survival and tactical designs. Currently there is only a small range of knives with the Spartan Blades name made outside the US. It mostly follows an easy line of “fixed blades are from the States; folders are from Taiwan” with a few exceptions.

Considering each knife I create is 100% hand crafted and all materials vary, you can be confident that your knife is truly one of a kind. While attending the 1989 Knifemakers’ Guild Show, I was standing at the table of a very well-known knifemaker and checking out his knives. A new maker approached the veteran maker and asked him to critique his knives. The veteran maker asked him how long he had been making knives and for his price for one of them. Having instructed thousands of students over 25 years at Heavin Forge and teaching at the ABS School, Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather understand the problems that beginning bladesmiths will encounter. This manual nicely catches those mistakes and explains each step in an easy-to-follow format. I use mostly D 2 tool steel; a high carbon high chrome steel which holds an excellent edge. Some 440-C stainless and other grades if available on request.
