Custody Update
To the best of my awareness, all relevant parties have agreed. GS will be withdrawn from his current kindergarten class on Wednesday and will start the Spring Semester here at the farm. His little sister will move with him. The dialog about the unborn granddaughter remains sketchy, but her parents will be homeless soon after she is born in January, so we are making room for her, as well.
Anxiety is running high this morning. What the fuck have I gotten myself into this time? ? ? Whatever happened to that quaint ideal of being able to hand the GK's back to the parents after the good times are done? Prayers in progress. . . Letting God lead the dance.
Amtrak runs a daily train between the Urban Homestead and the farm. Daddy is taking the trial run today with both of his children with plans to return tomorrow for his new job and GS's last few days in his current school. The train station here isnae far from the park on Buffalo Creek where we spent Thanksgiving chasing turkies and eating drive-thru feasts. The current plan is to have a picinic lunch in the car when we pick them up.
And it just now occurred to me that we won't have car seats for the children. They will have car seats when we pick them up next week and those things are cumbersome enough that nobody wants extras. To legalate or to criminalate. . . The 21st century dichotomies strike again. How on Earth did humanity manage to over-populate the planet long before we were burdened with all these safety laws?

I have a feeling that the car seat issue is one of the birth control efforts of the day. how many seats will fit in one car? Not knowing, but have a feeling that you should be ok to make the trip home without the law on your side of the dilemma.
childhood is short enough that I went way out of my way to get as much of my GK's time as I could, that was the shortest decade of my life so far.
Don't know what to write Arfie… Peace in 'any' from please come to Arfie and her family. God Bless You and God Please Hold "All" in Your Loving Hands as this transition takes place.
Geez...… You and your husband are angels for these children.... Kudos to you for all that you're doing sweetie..... You are all in my prayers..... Huge hug and a blessing.....xo
It won't be so angelic if we've bitten off more than we can handle and. . . There sure are allot of horrific "What If" scenarios, but I heard a rumor a time or fifty that happy What If's are statistically as likely as the horrific ones.
Hubs, son and family met at the train station and are currently at the park while I continue tinkering with the honey barn. I think the extraction room has started its career extracting figurative family honey. Maybe. We see what grows.
I hear you.... I don't know that I could do it...… These are your retirement years that you've sure earned.... I'm hugging you Arf…..xo
Wondering...would cps set up sometime of 'grand parent respite program for you and hubby? or at least give some type of support during the transition?
CPS resources are available to us. The parents have been involved with them for long enough to be familiar with all that, but Hubs are in the very early stages of sorting through what all that means. We are also fortunate enough to have private resources available.
Our greater hope is that the parents will continue to make use of the program(s) to upgrade their parenting skills enough to be able to provide for them after the end of the school year, but that part is beyond our control. Prayers in progress. . .
Yea, we feel seriously cheated, not only of our hard-earned retirement but of our Grand Time, as well. There's a considerable difference between parenting and grandparenting. Supposed to be, anyway. . .
