Cryday
Dearest,
Well, I took half a day off work yesterday with the idea of getting ahead of the snow and ice management issues. Damn near killed myself! The snow is covered by a crust that is almost frozen enough to support my weight (fat jokes are so not called for), almost! I would be standing on top of the snow trying to break through the crust on the roof when I would suddenly start sinking. I would sink all the way up to my crotch. At least once I got sort of stuck, one leg in each hole through the crust and nothing to help me get out. I rolled out, and then rolled to shallower snow but wouldn’t that be embarrassing, having to call for help because I was stuck in the snow in my own yard. How would you explain that to the 911 operator anyway? Only got half the roof done and half the driveway before my knee gave out, my good knee. I was soaking wet. Came in, stripped, jumped in the shower, dressed, crawled into bed and slept for about four hours. Haven’t gotten your car shoveled out yet.
More snow tomorrow, only 4-6” they say, but they’ve been wrong before.
I am working on paying your bills, I don’t think there will be many more. I remember how you hated the winters, this year I agree totally. When this crap all starts to melt there will be flooding!
For the shoulder surfers who may not know, we deal with snow here. We know how, and we have the equipment. Within 2-4 hours after the precipitation ends the main roads are clear. Within 24 hours all roads are clear and most are clean and dry. I usually am able to keep the same schedule with the driveway / house. This year the snow has been so relentless that I’ve fallen behind. Without my helpmate it’s little wonder that I’m a little behind, yes it still is.
Joe sold the radio station, our only local station will now become a part of some multinational conglomerate who, I am sure, will care a great deal about our local problems and events. There was an avalanche on Route 44! It buried a tractor trailer truck. No one was hurt but they closed the road for about four hours. It’s like the freakin’ Swiss Alps around here, buildings collapsing, avalanches, jeez!
Still don’t know who I am, or who I am becoming. Still trying to figure out many things, no not just the laundry. I’m a different person now, I know that. Seems like I have so many changes to go through, seems like puberty all over again. I didn’t like that crap the first time through. Why did you have to leave me? I’m likely to wander off in the wrong direction you know. I need your conscience to restrain my impulsiveness.
Till the snow stops falling, Your Ken
