Cruising the old Hoods
Today my stepdad drove me around the places I used to live and hang out. It was cool to see the house I lived in with my dad... the people who live there are taking really good care of it and it's nice to see that. My biggest worry is that someone will buy the house and not take good care of it. You need to put a lot of work into the house, since one it's a big house and two there are a ton of trees and plants around that you have to take care of. But the people living there now have kept the rosebushes, just trimmed them back a bit, and have kept up the trees and such that we planted there. They even have more plants than we did! They had a nice arrangement on the stairs of potted plants. I couldn't see into the backyard since there were plants in the way. It made me feel good to know that they were taking good care of it, and even adding to what my dad and brothers did. It brought back some memories, I can tell you that. And luckily they were good memories. I didn't think too much about my dad being gone as much as I was thinking that his legacy was still alive through that house. I used to say I would never want to live there because my dad died there, but now I'm not sure. I would like to have it so I can keep it up and keep the legacy alive.
I also got to see the new hospital they built, and the old one I used to work at. It's weird... on one side of the hospital nothing's changed... it looks the same. On the other side is where the new hospital is, and the old one stands in the background, watching over it like an older brother. The new hospital is all nice and modern, and the old one still has it's pride. If you ever watched General Hospital back in the days, it was the hospital in the intro. It's the hospital that the soap opera was based on, and that's what we called it- General Hospital. It's also right by my high school, which on the outside hasn't changed a bit. There's not much of it to see outside, anyway, I would have to go inside and look to see any changes. It's just one building, really, with a park next door that we would do P.E. in. It was a good school anyway. The last place we stopped by was my grandmother's old house, and it was okay. I just saw the outside, which they painted pink and green (horrid!).
I also went for my walk today. I did 1.25 miles in 35 minutes... I got farther and faster than I thought I was going to. I averaged about 28 minutes a mile on hills, when I was doing 27 minutes a mile on flat. I would think that I would be much slower on hills, since you have to walk up them and that takes a lot out of you. I heard that you should walk with the same intensity uphill, not necessarily with the same speed. I was pushed hard and out of breath walking those hills, and it felt good. I like it when I push myself and I'm sore the next day. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something. I know it's not always good to have your muscles sore, but I like the feeling personally. I'm just proud of myself for my time, since there wasn't much flat terrain in the path I walked. I could have taken the easier path, but I didn't and I'm glad. I want to be able to do at least 3.5 miles by the time I leave here, on hills. I was doing 3.25 at home flat, and so if I'm able to do 3.5 it means that when I get home I can get to 4 miles even faster. I just have to be careful, since my ankle is still hurting every now and then. I don't know what's wrong with it, but it can't be anything major.
Food today was good... I'm in my calorie range and everything for the day. I had a sandwich and some bacon for breakfast, some soup and crackers for lunch and tacos for dinner. I had a new kind of taco... it was deep fried (bad, I know) but it was awesome. It had cabbage instead of lettuce, which gave it a better texture. Almost like a fish taco, which also has cabbage instead of lettuce. I still managed to stay in my calorie range, even with the deep fried tacos. I'm still high on fat, but I didn't eat a lot of other heavy stuff during the day. I'm low on carbs, but that's okay as well, since yesterday almost all I ate was carbs. Stress today was low... My stepdad was supposed to go outside and do yard work and I felt bad that I wasn't helping, so I offered to help and he gave me chores to do which made me feel better. Like I was less of a mooch. Mood today was good... just thinking about the old days, but the good old days not the bad ones. I just hope that I can keep the good memories going and the bad ones away. You have to take the bad with the good, but I hope to keep it more good than bad!

I love going back to past places of work and living and reveling in the memories. Good stuff!
