Those are the words my hematologist used.
I'm off coumadin and now on Lovenox "for life" or until there is a better alternative.
It is past my bedtime, but I cannot bring myself to give myself my first injection.
I have done this before. Twice.
With each of my PEs- in 2005 and 2008.
But each time before I knew it was only for 10 days, until the coumadin got in my system.
This time it is forever...
I don't want to give myself my first shot- the beginning of forever.

Oh, honey, I am so sorry you\'re facing this right now.
As we know, you have to take the first shot. And tomorrow, you\'ll have to take another.
But there\'s NO TELLING what medicines will emerge over the next few years. My dad was just put on Arixtra - one shot a day and much more stable than Lovenox. This didn\'t exist when I was diagnosed 3.5 years ago.
Never, ever, ever give up hope.
I know this is over-whelming for you right now. Be strong!
I know it\'s troubling for you at this moment, but it won\'t take long before giving yourself a shot is just another thing you do, every day, to take care of yourself. Let that \"forever\" thinking go by the wayside!

Saturday, daylight comes, and it\'s new day. You\'re going to turn this around. And like LauraLu said, this will become just another thing you do in your day to make sure you\'re good to go.

And better to be a warfarin failure than human being failure. There\'s no shot for that.
That\'s like when they told me I had failled all my genetic tests... :(

Beecute, yes you will definitely get use to giving yourself shots. My husband has been doing it for 25 years now, with insulin. He can\'t take louvenox because while he was in the hospital he was diagnosed with HIT (heparin induced thrombocytopemia)sort of like a reaction that dropped his platelets down way to low. There is some heparin in luvenox so he can\'t take it. While hospitalized he had to go on an agatroban drip. (Next best substitute for heparin)....if he had to give himself shot for these clots, he would gladly do that, too. You very soon get use to doing somthing that helps keep you alive. Before you know it, it will be part of your daily routine. Hang in there, I\'m thinking of you!
