Corona Cop Out?

Be it hysteria or The Big One, Big Bro's Spring Break has been extended an extra week in salute to the prevailing two pennies in this year's flu season. Still no reported cases in this county, and officials are hoping to keep it that way. Hence the extra week of Spring Break. Damn. I coulda made that River Region Reunion after all. The county in which the other grandparents live has been declaired a disaster zone and has shut down many of its public venues. They have even cancelled the civic event which put that no longer humble county on the fashionable zip code directory. Inside my strictly personal N-Word, public hysteria is far more frightening to me than any microbe. Hey. . . It's a people phobia. I stopped expecting ^it^ to make sense many psychotic breaks ago.

Be the quarantine lines valid or hysterical, they havenae eased my mind on sending the children across adversarial lines. Adding government guns to the family lawer guns is putting most uncomfortable knots in my gut. The children are listening with extra care.

My dominant thought is to follow government leads and cancel the inter-county travel. Is my control freakitis jumping its curbs AGAIN or is it a fair precaution? Part of me is eager to embrace it as the gift of a graceful, blame-free out for all parties. Which part?

Sorting. . . Still rapid cycling.

I'm coming back from Mexico to the USA tomorrow, arfie, and what you wrote is on my mind: "public hysteria is far more frightening to me than any microbe." I don't doubt the seriousness of this coronavirus outbreak. From what I hear as an old gent with underlying medical conditions (chronic kidney disease) I'm one of its favorite targets.

But my PTSD gets stirred up by the public panic. Growing up in the Tupamaro War in Uruguay at age 11 I was caught in a couple of riots where tear gas and live bullets were used and people got hurt and died. That was worse than pneumonia, which I've also had. Don't want any coronavirus, to be sure, but I can certainly do without the public hysteria just as much.

Yeah it would worry me too. I don’t know what the answer to that one is. The kids are apparently fairly safe but could they bring it back to you and hubs? Too hard for me to work out.

Isn't "war" a synonym for "Public Hysteria?" If the gambling houses are taking bets on The Big One, I'm putting my money on the volatility of human nature. Not that money will be worth the paper it is printed on 20 minutes after The Big One finally arrives.

Setting all that controversy to the side for now. . .

Hubs called the other grandfather and, over the course of two phone calls, the two men decided to take the risk and hold to the plans as made. My feelings are still rapid cycling too fast for me to trust them, so. . . Que sera sera. Looks like I am back to trying to muster the caregiver vacay spirit and still pretty astounded on how much harder that is during this second parenting career than it was in the first. I'm still sorting on that one, but my favorite theory is that lawyer backed muck slinging makes a big diff in the trust factor. The grandparents who provided those first parenting career breaks never once sent a lawyer after me.

Speaking of which, the courts in which the protective custody originated were, indeed, closed today for the Corona precautions, but our case was handled by email. The protective custody is officially rescinded and the case has been shuffled to adoptions. Does that mean it's officially too late to let the other grandfather *win*? Dunno if the other grandmother sees losing her "grand" as a demotion, or not. Her husband does all the talking in their family and he doesnae like talking to me, either. Las damas no se conducen.

well, if its been decided already, regardless of your spidey tingling instinct to keep them home, i would guess the best course of action would be to concentrate on the task at hand of making yourself focused on some well deserved “me” time.

Be it a work project, or some kind of relaxing pause, crossing my fingers you can drench yourself into it so that the tinglies subside. Tripl hugs

I donae much trust my spider senses when I am anxious to the point of hyper-vigilance and there isnae a doubt in my mind that I am hyper-vigilant. This year's flu season doesnae look any more threatening to my senses than any other flu season. Nor does this public hysteria look much different than any of the other mob actions I have witnessed in my life.

The vigilance is coming mostly from the similarities between my birth family and my son's in-laws as well as the obscene evolution of STBX Waltzing with relative strangers. Are we co-grandparents or Ken and Barbie? I have worked hard to stay out of the Ex-Camps and finding myself playing the closing scenes of the standard 21st century romance with a waddling old macho man is unpalatable on every level ^it^ can reach. The notorious trigger effect, as I first learned it in the old shell shock support groups. I amnae certain how much of that translated into the new PTSD theories, but for now, I am trusting what has worked for me in the past and taking the Leap of F-Word (Faith) that God really is leading this dance. I havenae a doubt God knows I need some rest and review of what to bring forward of the life I had before I lost my beloved son and inherited his beloved children. I miss that life at least as much as I miss my son.

Dunno if I am ever gonna love that waddling macho man or his damsels in distress, but stranger things have happened. The need to even know them at all remains a shock to my system. Who in the smart phone world ever has to know their adult child's in-laws?
